I know, its really annoying all these remakes of already brilliant films and TV shows. The only one I ever liked/connected with was the American Queer as Folk.

Although the first series was more or less the same as the UK one, the next four were all original and I liked both versions equally

I think its fine for the Americans to remake popular British series. I think we should see it as an honour. The office remake was a big hit over there and is still going strong and I bloody hate the remake but I appreciate the US audience can relate more to it, and they always have a choice. Its funny though, it never quite works the other way round...

Game of Thrones gets tremendously glowing reviews so far from most critics and also on IMDB its scoring 9.4 from 540 odd votes. Even more excite to see it now (though Funthing's review already made me excited enough!)

Be careful talking like that rawr_, some of us might take offense. Thought you might speak a little kinder of Americans now you are in their midst. Or maybe they are calling you a 'bloody typical Brit" in return.

It's not American remakes in particular I am not fond of, but remakes in general :/ Either they remake the exact same movie/TV-show and I wonder: if it was already good enough to use the same script, why redo it in the first place? Or it just ruins the characters/feeling of the show/movie I find.

I can think of many remakes that were excellent. John Carpenter's The Thing, King Kong, Thomas Crown Affair, Dawn of the Dead and there many more. As good as originals are, it can be nice to see a re-imagining. Of course, too many times, the implementation can be horrible (like Planet of the Apes) or even shamelessly remade scene for scene like Psycho and The Omen. But even then, its not a waste of time because most people who would see the remakes may not have seen the original and wouldnt go out of their way to see the original. Its about choices. In most case though I personally would stick to the original

when american movies reinvent history they can be very annoying. although often fun to watch too.

mind you, brits have done enough of inventing history to suit ourselfs.

i dont think the US can ever make a Being Human as good as ours...they havent got Lenora Critchlow have they? yey.

Going to watch Game of Thrones later or tomorrow. Not a massive fantasy fan, but it's on HBO and has been critically acclaimed so definitely looks like it's worth a watch. The thing I'm most worried about is it being too complicated, just reading the little IMDB summary went way over my head! Apparently it chucks characters at you a bit like The Wire! Has anyone seen it?

A few of us were lucky enough to see the first 2 episodes a week ago at BAFTA along with a Q&A. There are some reviews earlier in the thread. There are a few characters but each kingdom, area has a completey different look which helps things. I found it easier to recognze the characters than in The Wire and even remember some of the names. Also its not too much into fantasy,well not so far
