Based on all this amazing feedback I'm absolutely gutted I couldn't obtain any tix for the Apollo screening taking place on the 4th.
Suddenly I'm not so thrilled about having scored some "Guard" tickets shortly after the "Apes" one was announced.

Well, normally I would be immensely jealous of all of you that have seen it tonight but I am not because I was at the one night performance of Placido Domingo and Angela Gheorghiu (basically felt like I was listening to the voice of God and his PA)

But am so f**king pumped to see it after reading your vibes on it guys!

I made a grave tactical error last night. I really should have used the loo prior to the screening kicking off. Instead I made sure I grabbed another two beers. I never, ever leave the screen when a film is on, but I really had no choice last night. I went once and was pretty quick about it, but it granted me only temporary relief. The reason I mention this is that it may have influenced my viewing experience. Or I'm just gonna end up in the minority who thought this wasn't really anything special.

This is pretty much the Great Ape Escape. The human characters are in no way memorable, with the exception of John Lithgow, but that may just be down to it being good to see him on-screen again. Franco is serviceable and everyone else is paper thin. Of course the star here is Weta. The trailers tout their involvement and rightfully so. The effects are flawless and the expressiveness of Ceasar makes the film. His development is the core and heart of the film. I think one's enjoyment of this will really depend on how much they care for Ceasar. I thought it was interesting enough, but it wasn't anything that I was blown away by. The climax was devoid of any real tension to me (other than whether or not the film would end before I pissed myself, anyway) since it's a foregone conclusion that the humans won't be beating back the revolution. However, the ease with which the primates overcome the police force is more than just slightly unrealistic. It all looks fantastic though and is worth seeing for the advancements in CGI.
Luckily for the apes, the same virus strain that enhances their intelligence, is also lethal to humans and easily spread. That's one sweet coincidence worth savouring over a few bananas.
7.5/10 for me. The night was really fun on the whole and I'm glad I had some good company.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.
