Crazy, Stupid, Love

Sorry, it's crude maybe by 1950s standards, but is quite mild in our modern world. CSL goes for some visual gags, but aside from the contrived graduation scene, is very well written and performed. Obviously, you disagree with that but to chalk it up to being crude strikes me as silly. The aforementioned scene was not meant to be totally hilarious. It was meant to be awkward and is used to establish the characters and story between them. There was nothing graphic about it and is for the most part implied. That a teenage boy should be doing that is his own room is in no way crude and I don't personally understand why you've decided to attach that word to it.

It's totally fine if you didn't like the film. To each their own. However to bang on about this film being some sort of crude cinematic failure is way off the mark in 2011.

Its "very well written" maybe by 2010s standards for romantic comedy, containing as it does, absolutely no romance and no comedy (as is the predominant modern formula for the most neglected film genre). However, it is rubbish by the standards of the golden era in Hollywood, when films such as His Girl Friday or Sullivan's Travels were made. The writing is also terrible by the standards of modern comedy films that don't pander to the masses, such as In The Loop or Four Lions (although these films are few and far between).

I do understand some people may find it crude even so the only border-line scene I could recall is when the nanny walked in when the boy was in his bedroom... but then again, it was all about suggestions... no full frontal sex, not even the word masturbation (I think)

Saw this at the Apollo last night. Good cast but I didn't have too high expectations and hadn't really seen the trailer, so ended up being pleasantly surprised. Not a classic, but as Beate said earlier, good entertainment that takes you out of your not necessarily great or stressy day. Some great lines that did make me laugh out loud. Recommend for entertainment (depending on your taste based on the above debate!) but maybe not if you want to see something a bit more original. It kinda felt longish too, though to add not in a tiresome, overlong way, just very thorough! Ryan Gosling's somehow growing on me though (even with the scary 6 pack) but think I'll like Drive this weekend more! 7/10 from me.

I really loved this movie, even seeing it at Whiteleys with an unnatural head crank couldn't ruin it for me. I found it funny and I do have a soft spot for films like this when they are done well and CSL was in my opinion.

Great cast, with some likeable characters that meant it did hold my attention, even if it was a bit long. Ryan Gosling - I don't p*y much attention to him in general but every time I watch a film he is in, I do notice that he has certain charisma and plays the unlikely romantic lead so well. I am a fan - more Ryan Gosling please!

9/10 - one of my most enjoyable films this year.
