canadian_turtle wrote:They attracted big name stars for characters either not in the musical or part of the ensemble which makes it seem like they're doing different things with the story/characters.
For example:

Catherina Zeta-Jones as Patricia Whitmore
Paul Giamatti as Paul Gill

Who are those characters even? And trust me, I know all the names...

i dont know why they bother with names. Make it good and it will sell.

I never knew any of the stars of West Side Story and Bugsy Malone before I saw the musicals, but they worked because they were made perfectly.

So I really do hope they change some plans of casting, it would be just odd to see ... Ethan Hunt showhorned into a musical for the sake of it. Get some good young guys to do it, make it well and it will be a far bigger hit than it becoming another Tom Cruise vehicle.

I think that's what attracs me to the musical so much as well. I had only heard of Justin Lee Collins before but to me he's unrecognisable as Dennis (just because I didn't know him well) so I can truly see the cast as the characters rather than as whatever big thing they've done before this.

so true. I actually was trying to work out which one he was, not that I watch his shows, luckily I couldnt recongise him...but the anonymity really helped you watch him, more so than knowing who is was (tbh, people recognise most celebrities these days for sucking rather than swooning over).

PS sucking = being crap, not anything else 8O

Is Mayor Mike Whitmore a real character? Does he sing? Intrigued to see Bryan Cranston sing...the man's so diverse though.
