Went to see this last night at Silverlink. Cinema about 95%+ full I think. Loads of kids!
I though Partly Cloudy (is that what it was called?) was excellent. 9/10 for that, great work on the shorts as always.
I was saying to Mrs 1978 that I think Pixar don't do humans as well as they do animals/robots/monsters, and I'm inclined to go with this again. There always feels like there's a certain element missing.
Difficult to explain, but there you go.
Anyway, the subject matter at times is quite dark for Pixar, including loss of a baby, death, grief and greed. Not that there's anything wrong with this, but it's quite ambitious. Also, I'm pretty certain that the explorer bloke would have died in the fall. Is this the first Pixar film with a killing in it? Furthermore, I didn't think the end was up to much. With the likes of Wall-E and Monsters Inc you get great closure, this ending had no impact at all.
Away from that, the colours are amazing, as is the detail and animation. But would any less be expected from Pixar?
6.5/10 - a good watch, but nowhere near the dizzy heights of other Pixar films for me.
