(she saw him at the charity event I think
but I agree and this is what I thought as well (a weird stranger stopping his car) as I did not recognise the face of the guy anyway!)

A black woman on a white mans property, you could get shot for that, being a trespasser an allfunthing29 wrote:This is actually completely understandable.RioBravo wrote: Surely noone can justify the 'comedy' of the fat one going insane and grabbing a stick to attack Jessica Chastain's husband, just because he drove up his own drive way?
Up to this point in the film, Minny had not met Cynthia's husband so when a white man approaches a black woman with an offer to help, it is logical that she would be frightened for her safety.
there's a lot more to Mr Johnny, Minnie and Celia in the book
he caught her in the house and they kept it a secret until Celia owned up and told her the truth to Mr Johnny
Re: The Help
Actually, that's one of my big beefs with these earnest middle brow dramas. They always have this terrible broad comedy in them. There were tonnes of attempts at jokes, it doesn't matter if it wasn't a comedy, when there are loads of unfunny jokes and the audience is laughing away at the word shit, its a very alienating experiences.Celini wrote:errrr, this was no supposed to be a comedy

Re: The Help
I have to agree with that point, I think a lot of what it was meant to mean went right over some peoples head.RioBravo wrote:Actually, that's one of my big beefs with these earnest middle brow dramas. Again I urge people to get the book out of the library or even better get it on audio, it made my blood boil listening to it

You might as well have actually ignored it.Beate wrote:While I respect your right to a different opinion I am also going to ignore it.
It was harder for me to ignore other opinions on this film because I've just had to sit in silence for 2 hours 20 minutes while an audience of people chuckled away at drivel.
