We stayed at the Hilton on the waterfront and it was super cheap - cos we booked ahead. Not as fancy as it sounded, but it was fine.

My parents are going to Rome next week, should they b*y tickets for the Vatican before they go?

I would recommend it yeah if they want to go to the museums and the Sistine chapel. I booked mine from here http://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/musei/tickets/do

There was another queue in St Peters Square for the actual church, not sure if you can b*y tickets for that in advance but the queue is massive. I didnt do that one.

jojojoanne mentions about the travelodge.... sometimes if you book them early enough in advance then you can get them for as little as £19 but that's not a guarantee, I've just seen it advertised in the past.

I think when I went, I got a great deal on Lastminute.com. Failing that just type cheap hotels or cheap b&b in Brighton into google. Thats what I usually do and then have a look what's on offer.

So, lots of people going to Paris. We went at New Year and we were told about this restaurant called Chez Gladines. It's fab - they don't take reservations and you may well have to wait for an hour or so to get seated, but it's worth it. The wine is cheap and the food is great. The Veal seems to be the best. Guys, I need your help finding cheap yet decent accommodation in Central Paris!

I initially planned to book a hostel room for my nights there but my mum is joining me for the journey so obviously this isn't an option anymore. However often a hotel can be booked nearly just as cheap as the price will be per room, not per person.

Requirements:

- Either close to Gare du Nord or within walking distance of a metro station that's on a direct line to Gare du Nord

- Close to a metro station that's on a direct line to Disneyland in Marne La Vallee

- Close (preferably walking distance) to Seine and some of the sights (Eiffel Tower etc). We only have 1 full day in Paris itself and want to make the most of taking in the atmosphere without having to travel far

- Elevators (don't remember what it's like in Paris but in London it can be a pain finding a hotel with an elevator and I don't want to force my mum to walk up endless flights of stairs)

- Free wifi for my laptop

- Free breakfast

- Cheap!

Any personal recommendations from past journeys? Is there a budget chain hotel like Travelodge in the UK?

Has anyone been to Iceland yet? I found an 11 day tour from 26 July to 5 August, that way we would get round at least half the Olympics, from Jona Tours (www.jona-tours.com). Does anyone have any experience with them? They do groups of maximum 20 people for their tours which cover a lot of the country. It's quite expensive though (over 2,600 per person) but I don't know whether that might still be good value - I heard Iceland is quite dear.

I went to Iceland that's year. we were hoping to see northern lights but weather wasn't right.
Drinks are expensive but food was pretty similar to London prices.
The capital is lovely people are very friendly.
We booked through icelandair. Because It was best price at the time.
Not sure on the company u mentioned.


It's a lovely country. The crater we went to visit was spectacular to see. And make sure u go to the geyser (even tho it stinks).you can visit a beautiful triple waterfall and if ur lucky can see a rainbow in the middle. And the power plant Is pretty interesting
