No, I've seen all the commotion about the YouTube video now I'm back, but it appears he's not been in Uganda for about 6 years and is now in DRC.havingascreen wrote:Wow that sounds like a fantastic adventure, no sign of Kony out there then?yogi wrote:Just got back from a fabulous 10 days safari in Uganda. Had a great time and it was great to have so many tickets for me when I got back, thanks to Diane65 for looking out for me yet again.
I felt totally safe at all times, so that certainly wouldnt be a reason for anyone not to go.

Sounds wonderful, what a fabulous experience. The closest that I've got to anything like that is watching Wild at Heart.yogi wrote:Just got back from a fabulous 10 days safari in Uganda. Re: Holiday Thread
Here is my adventures in NYC if anyone is interested. Thanks for all the tips. Too much to do in four short days.
For some reason UA upgraded us to their economy seats which had 6 inches more than their economy seats. So it was lovely and spacious and OH and I had three seats between us. We arrived in Newark at 13:00 and got our shuttle transfer to our hotel. The Grand Union Hotel wasn't that great. Modest but very clean. Great location. Walking distance to most places. Bath was pretty low so only took showers. We noticed in the fire exit map our room was one of the bigger ones so can't complain. However there is only wi fi in the foyer which sucks really. As were pretty tired we decided to go to the Empire State Building (as it was only 3 blocks away) and also grab some food.
Friday we woke up pretty early and headed to Woodbury Commons. OH shop a bit here. As I am not a shopper we did the outlet pretty quickly and was done by 13:30 so waited for the bus back. By the time the bus came there was a huge queue and some people never got on as the bus was full. So it is also good to queue early. Because we arrived back in the mid afternoon we headed to Times Square. There we bumped into a friend who is studying at Princeton but was in NYC for the day. Actually she shouted on me several times and eventually had to tagged me on the back before I turned round. Freaky! We went toToys 'R' Us where we went on the ferris wheel, Disney Store, Hersheys, M&Ms (such a fun shop). Then we walked to the Apple Store and FAO Schwatz where the big piano from Big is. Then we walked to Grand Central Terminal to admire it. Then food at TGI's Friday. I mentioned we were in NYC for OH's birthday and they give us a free brownie cake. Tasty.
Saturday we walked downtown to the tickets booth to see if there were any cheap tickets. However cheapest ones were $80 which I think is too much. However OH disagrees. Suffice to say we didn't get any. We got our passes to the 9/11memorial which is worth doing. We walked halfway along Brooklyn Bridge and stopped outside the Supreme Court. Then we visited Chinatown and went to see the temple. Then we walked to Broadway via Union Square.
Sunday we did the tv and movies tour. Good value for money as we had a very funny and informative guy. Saw lots of places from tv and films. After that we headed to Central Park which I fell in love with. It is the best free thing in NYC.
I proposed to OH in one of the turret seats in the mid level in Belvedere Castle.
Monday we went to Macy's before getting ready to head back.
Weather was fantastic. Not a drop of rain and apart from Sunday where it was 45F the other days were high 50F to low 60F. Hotel location was great. We walked a lot but also eat a lot. NYC grew on me. Still don't understand the money system. Why would anyone have the same colour bills for all denominations. And still couldn't get used to adding tax at the till. Plus I didn't really like the places that add your gratitudes on for you. I rather do that myself. Means they don't have to try too hard on the service.
