Anyone lucky enough to go to the world premiere last night and have a nice review to write to us about?

Not me, I registered for at least 3000 comps but got nothing but junk mail in return :(

Maybe all this talk about Invictus, Precious, Nine etc and the best film oscar actually goes to........Avatar.....lol (that would be quite a surprise for me anyway, having only watched the 15 mins trailer and not seen any reviews so far)

I think there are only two ways a critic can review this film - either saying it's amazing and using lots of superlatives, or say it's massively underwhelming. I'm glad to see it's closer to the former, though I'm expecting a four star film myself. Definitely very excited to see it nevertheless.

that time is annoying. i checked - the certification is a 12a so, i think, they might be expecting younger viewers.

I read the summary of reviews on yahoo too, it's all good. Almost universally all 4 stars at least and 5 with the 3D effects.

Got there for about 5.05pm to join OH who was the very first in the queue (I had sent him early). He then embarrassed me in front of everybody by running towards the screen when it wasn't time yet - he had mistaken what the usherette had said. Everyone laughed.

We got our 3D glasses at the screen where there were plenty more ushers who wanted to see our tickets and got very confused when we told them we had given them to the usherette downstairs! Got into the screen to see goody bags on every seats (yay) and a lot of reserved signs on seats, God knows who they were for.

The film got very full but not 100% full, we had seats empty to our left and right, which meant we snaffled their goody bags as well, LOL. They contained a water bottle, popcorn, Green & Black's chocolate and a "20 years of Breaking News" book about Sky.

The film is weird. It starts as sort of sci-fi Dances with Wolves and ends as a full blown Independence Day war film, only never really that good, or funny. The Na'vi weren't exactly my type, and the 3D did not work very well for me. Also, I thought the film was very dark, in terms of colours. Yes, the animation was great, no doubt about it. But a film isn't good through animation alone, and this seemed to be a bit of "hey, look what I can do" show off by James Cameron. Who doesn't seem to be able to make a normal length film. This one was almost 3 hours! In a way it was good it started at 5.30pm. We saw MariaLionza in the queue, missed a_person (sorry, saw your text too late!) and met cheekyweelassie on the way out.

The OH loved it but it's only a 6/10 from me.
