Well what a surprise to end up seeing this film last night after all. I had tickets for O2 which I gave away because I have my evening job but I had also obtained a while back SFF tickets for Wimbledon for my friend and his girlfriend. But my job tonight was cancelled and I jokingly text my friend that I wished I didnt give him and his girlfriend my tickets, emphasising at the end that I am just kidding. Then he responded back, "tickets wasted on 'girlfriend name', please come with me, it was your tickets anyway". I thought, what an awesome friend I have, to abandon his girlfriend and take me instead

Its the morning after...and I am still breathless from the epic 2hrs 45min journey of The Dark Knight Rises.

I will say this straight off the...ahem...bat. TO anyone who hasnt seen this film last night, go see this film ASAP. Not because of how good it is but because this is a film that is hard to not let slip any twists and turns in the film. And looking at the posts of the last few pages, my warning is obviously too late. It seems a lot of people have given up using spoiler tags. But if by some miracle you have avoided seeing those posts, feel free to stop reading this thread, take Friday morning off work, and go see it on the first showing of the day...ok well just go see it as soon as you can.

This film is nearly as awesome as the hype machine had us believing. Its not perfect but it exceeded my expectations. Admittedly half way through the film, I was thinking I still prefer the first 2 films but then the second half unravelled deeper layers of this grand epic surpassing all the awesomeness that the first 2 films delivered.

I know there will be haters and I respect those who do, I can understand. There are scenes which could have had more impact than it did and some that require a suspension of disbelief, it may be convoluted and overlong and might also be criticised for trying to be too many things in one go. But I personally believe as a whole it pulls it off despite the fact that this demands repeated viewing to understand the whole web of corruption, anarchy and complex storytelling.

I do have some minor issues which maybe major issues to others. Some of the dialogue was a tad heavy handed and feels like an actor's spotlight to give his scene stealing speech. Another problem is the sound mix. The score is often way too domineering, diminishing the effect of the dialogue, muffling it up in some cases. TBH I had this problem with the first 2 films anyway and its only on Blu Ray do these sound mixes have more clarity. Having said that, there is an absolutely stunning segment when no score is used at all when you expect there to be...but to incredible effect and impact. My final minor gripe is the middle part, although essential to the narrative to give the last act more impact, it is too prolonged and I feel should have been truncated somewhat. Perhaps on second viewing I may change my mind about that.

Overall though, this is a truly powerful epic and mind blowing conclusion to what I personally feel ranks as one of the greatest trilogies of all time. It is overwhelmingly the best movie of the year for me but I need time to reflect where it stands in the long line of comic book adaptations. I am still in exhilaration so my mind may not be too rational at the moment because right now I simply want to say its the greatest comic book inspired movie of all time. However, often, time changes my perception. But you know what? Its not what I think later on that matters, its what I feel now that matters most. So hell, I declare it to be the greatest of all comic book adaptations....well at least for today, anyway!

I cannot wait to see this again on Friday to absorb and understand more of the finer details. It is a film that demands multiple viewings.

9.5/10

Cool, sorry a bit confused. Just meant the same person who gave TDKR 2/5 also gave TDK 2/5.

We arrived @Crawley @6pm having gone straight from work but there was no queue. We asked security if many had gone in as we hadn't had a chance to eat & were told only about 30 & as it seated 470 we shouldn't worry. We opted for a quick burger so that we wouldn't miss the red-carpet footage only there wasn't any (& no explanation either!)

Everyone entering was made to go straight to the back (fine with us!) leaving the entire front half of the cinema empty except for the odd individual. My husband had tried to sit there but was told to move & not sure how you became 'eligible' - some people were struggling to find seats together but were not allowed in the empty rows!?

At 7pm a lady announced that the film would be starting @7.15pm so everyone had 10mins to get any food/beverages or go to the toilet as we would NOT be allowed out of the screen once the film had started - cue mass exodus to toilet as the panic of not being able to go to the loo for 3 hours set in!

That said I have never known an audience to sit so still or be so quiet (or was it simply that I couldn't hear anything over the noise of the film!) This was our first IMAX experience (we don't get out much - LOL!) & unfortunately we both LOVED it (not that we will ever be able to afford it!)

As for the film I wish I'd watched TDK again before this so it was fresh in my mind. I loved the action scenes but felt other parts dragged unnecessarily. I was also slightly niggled by how unbelievable some scenes were (much to the amusement of my husband - 'it's a superhero movie FFS!' - however I love it when unbelievable things are cleverly made plausible & this didn't happen. I did still enjoy the film - mainly for the experience - but won't be hanging out for the bluray!

saw this story on another site a few days ago, its really sad people get to that level, all said and done, its a film, how people can get so agitated about someone having there own opinion on a film is beyond me. when i walked out of The Avengers a chap in an iron-man t-shirt must have heard me saying "it was ok, nothing more" to a friend, and he shouted something along the lines of "you f&cking pr*ck" as we got out of the screen's door, never seen the bloke before in my life.

Beate wrote: OH was terribly excited to bag our favourite seats even though we weren't the first ones in. For me, the excitement was discovering, almost too late, that there was a free bar in front of the balcony so I quickly stocked up on crisps and coke - they did have beer and wine too.

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ANYTHING BAD ABOUT TDKR, SCROLL DOWN NOW.

The film - boy was it loud. I have never been so glad of my ear plugs!
I am afraid I thought it was dark, dull, dreary and it dragged. As someone said about Batman: "as dumb as he dresses". Didn't understand half of the story (though understood the ugly guy with the face mask just fine) and didn't care much either. Why did Wayne have to growl like that as Batman? He sounded ridiculous. It was lovely to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt and a few other actors, but this contained no humour at all and left me cold. Compared to other superhero movies I have seen recently it falls horribly flat and contained no excitement for me. And it's miles too long. I am probably just a misery arse as OH loved it and people clapped at the end but I'd rather have watched Seeking a Friend for the End of the World twice over instead of this. That had real human drama.
No, actually, I can't be bothered to ask.
I now have a stamp on my hand from the security guard in order to go to the bar and back that says "VOID". That's nice.

5.5/10

P.S. Where can I start a petition to ban Alex Zane from future red carpet footages please?

P.P.S I am going to REALLY enjoy myself now by moving about 90% of Wanted to Past Swaps.
I think a stamp on your hand is worth hving, in order to have a free bar - we didn't get anything at all

Yes why does Batman talk in that stupid voice?

Yes Ban Alex Zane from premieres, silly muppet! I was just flicking V signs at the screen when he was on.
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks
