Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
Hi Guys, i've won a competition with the Criterion Theatre on Piccadilly to go to two shows. These early start times to do not suit me however, so if anyone would like these, please let me know.
Congratulations! You have won a pair of tickets to both Taking Part and After the Party at the Criterion Theatre. Performance dates and times for both plays are as follows:
Taking Part by Adam Brace
Sunday 29th July 3pm
Monday 30th July 2.30pm
Tuesday 31st July 2.30pm
Thursday 2nd August 2.30pm
Friday 3rd August 2.30pm
Sunday 5th August 3pm
Monday 6th August 2.30pm
Tuesday 7th August 2.30pm
Thursday 9th August 2.30pm
Friday 10th August 2.30pm
Sunday 12th August 4pm
Lucky Henry, a Congolese security guard, has his sights set on representing his country at the 2012 Olympics. Only one problem: he's a terrible swimmer and his Russian coach wants to fly home on the first day of training. Everyone loves an underdog - think Eddie the Eagle or Eric the Eel. Follow Henry's journey from deep end straggler to Olympic hopeful as the two men try to fulfill their dreams at the London games. A funny, timely tale of true grit, self belief and canny oppotunism. Adam Brace's previous plays include Stovepipe, Midnight Your Time and The For Stages of Cruelty.
After the Party by Serge Cartwright
Sunday 29th July 5pm
Monday 30th July 4.15pm
Tuesday 31st July 4.15pm
Thursday 2nd August 4.15pm
Friday 3rd August 4.15pm
Sunday 5th August 5pm
Monday 6th August 4.15pm
Tuesday 7th August 4.15pm
Thursday 9th August 4.15pm
Friday 10th August 4.15pm
Sunday 12th August 6pm
Sean and Ray are best friends from Stratford. Once a promising DJ double act, now they're stuck in a rut: 30ish, unemployed but still clinging to a fantasy of making it in the music industry. With a baby on the way and the world about to arrive on their doorstep for London 2012, it could be the perfect opportunity for them to make something of their lives… A fresh, comic take on an everyday Londoner's attempt to go from rank outsider to out and out winner. Serge Cartwright's previous work includes Moscow Live and The Matter in Hand, which was long-listed for the Bruntwood Prize.
If you would like to take up this offer of a pair of tickets for both shows please respond to this email with your preferred performance dates and will get back in touch to confirm your booking. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Missed out on those Madonna tickets
Which is annoying as I genuinely would have liked to go.
Seems like everyone I know managed to get some.
Most annoying is that, unsurprisingly, a load of tickets have popped up on Gumtree and eBay from people who "won them in a competition, but can no longer make the gig - make an offer" etc, etc
No-one giving them away in the same manner they obtained them.

Just been to Richard the III at the Globe Theatre this afternoon. Enthralling performance from Mark Rylance and a very strong all male cast. I was seated under cover luckily: the groundlings gamely braved the rain, and the lines about the weather got big laughs from the audience.

yeah i should have done that. I'm just not corrupt enough to think of that or do it. But I wish I was! - it'd half my uni tuition fee problem for a term.El_Duderino wrote:Missed out on those Madonna ticketsWhich is annoying as I genuinely would have liked to go.

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I went to see O Brave New World Part 6 - Port on Sat night
The sheer audacity of what they did was just incredible.
You start off at a non-descript shop at Dalston, which looked like some travel shop from the 80s, as the show starts you board a golf buggie, which transports you at high speed to the canal where you have to board a narrow boat. It is here most of the action begins and you meet Prospero. A play on a narrow boat in a canal in North London??? How do people think of ideas like that. Just incredible. The acting is top notch especially from Prospero and Calaban. The action is nicely interspersed along the canal, Calaban on her rowing boat to catch up with us being a highlight.
It's such a shame that I've missed the first 5 parts and I think my friend who came along found the experience exhilarating but confusing not having read the Tempest before and seen the first 5 parts. Judging by what I heard from others who have seen the first 5 parts, it was incredible. Definitely keep an eye out on the this theatre group, Retz. 10/10
Also saw the mighty Hotel Medea on Friday night. What a might piece of work and an endurance feat - it's a 6 hour play from midnight to 6am. The time absolutely flew by, it was that enjoyable. However I do recommend people watch the whole experience of Hotel Medea rather than just the first part Zero Hour Market. If you watch just Zero Hour Market, you might wonder what all the fuss is about, as part one is rather loud and brash, but part 2 and 3 has many more thoughtful and introspective moments. It is very gimmicky in parts and I can see the broadsheet theatre reviewers giving possibly a thumbs down to it, but it just so brings alive the theatre experience. It's a must for all theatre lovers to experience. I won't include any spoilers, it's something to experience and come out thinking wow isn't theatre alive and well. I could have happily watched another 2-3 more hours of it. 10/10
