Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I saw this on Wednesday but I also saw it today in IMAX. I absolutely loved it - thought it was more-than-satisfying closure for the series, with some stunning action sequences and a pulse-pounding score. Loved the fact that it wasn't in 3D.
I hate going on about logistical difficulties because I think it unfairly undermines the rest of the film. I think there may have been a few problems, but I was just too darned exciting to let that bog me down. Not as good as The Dark Knight - but then was it ever going to be?
Here's my fanboy review, NOT a film studies review... http://jacobthehobnob.wordpress.com/201 ... ght-rises/
9/10 - one of the best films of the year.

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2012" club. I saw 32, which is rather delightful.. I beat Mr. Glass on free films but he narrowly inched me out on total films seen.
Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2011" club. I saw 20, interestingly enough. My more realistic target was to see more free films than TheyCallMeMrGlass. I lost.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I've now read Weirdy, SF, and David's reviews, which are all excellent, good critique boys, always enjoyable to read whether I agree with them or not.
I went to see it again, yesterday. I wondered if I would enjoy it as much as I did on Wednesday and begin to see its flaws. But no. I absorbed even more details and it is a wonderful thing to see the film, now with foresight, how Nolan cleverly structured the film to maximise the impact of the magnificent final act. I gave it a 10/10 on Wednesday which might have just been a moment of deliriousness. But now 2 days later on second viewing, its still a 10/10. What a great film for the ages.
I feel I can now place this film on my list of favourite comic book films. I cannot ever betray my childhood and lifelong love and passion for Richard Donner's Superman, it is too much a part of me for anything else that comes along to knock it off my number one. But The Dark Knight Rises will be my second favourite, Batman Begins 3rd, The Dark Knight 4th, and Raimi's Spiderman II 5th. Pity no room in the top 5 for Avengers Assemble (did I just say Assemble? sheesh! )
Now I await a chance to see it for a third time but this time at the Waterloo BFI IMAX which I know I am going to have to wait a few weeks for. But thats fine. Dont want to over kill it...as if seeing it 3 times in the cinema isnt an overkill, already, lol.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Saw at IMAX in Edinburgh - so grateful it wasn't in 3D. Much better this
We were ID'd including my OH who's name, funnily enough wasn't on the ticket, he pointed this out but they wanted ID anyway so he showed his Bank of Scotland card and that was fine - bizarre! Totally peed off we had to sit from 6.15-7.30 waiting on it starting with no trailers, not even the usual red carpet crap, even 30 minutes of that would have been vaguely entertaining...
I really struggled with Bane's voice, I missed about 50% of everything he said, so that annoyed me. I quite liked the film but it was too long. Liked the twist at the end.OH thought it was bloody marvelous!!

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
just listened to mark kermode review on radio 5 podcast.
am puzzled that he found ending ambiguous.
would someone kindly explain to me where the ambiguity is? seemed kinda straight forward to me.
ps kermode seems to like the idea of nolan's films more than nolan's films themselves.

That's the ambiguity (spoilers inside obviously):sunny hucknall wrote:just listened to mark kermode review on radio 5 podcast.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
thks for link.
just read it & utterly unconvinced.
silly movie. nolan once again hoping plot holes can be passed off as enigma. oh well.
Ted next, hoping for less plot hole & more coherence. (and more bear).

You call TDKR a silly movie but expect coherance from a movie about a talking Teddy Bear!sunny hucknall wrote:thks for link.
