full cinema at newham, good film but singing disappointing as I love the stage version. The group singing was worth hearing, but the leading characters did try their best. Too long for me and was glad when it ended, as seats were uncomfortable and woman beside me couldn't stop eating popcorn.

I've only seen the film version but I thought it was good. It was overbooked at the cinema though, and despite arriving early, my friend's and I had to sit on the front row which was about 3 feet away from the screen, who can complain though, especially if it was free preview. I think I'll get it on DVD when it's released. I thought the singing was amazing, sasha baron cohen and Helena Bonham Carter really made the whole film amusing. Overall, I enjoyed the cast's performance and I think i'd give the movie another watch at not such a twisted angle haha.

I am sure Tom Hooper is both celebrating and despairing about the Oscar nominations.

It has received the anticipated ones:
Best actor for Jackman
Best supporting actress for Hathaway
Best picture
Best original song

But he hasn't received a directorial nomination. :shifty:

This is great! I've always felt like getting a flag and standing up at the end of the stage show during this song in the finale! Well done to all involved! Really funny watching some folk going about there business and pretending nothing is happening!

LOL, I have just watched Film 2013 (yes, I am slow) and Danny Leigh thinks Tom Hooper is "on a one-man crusade against subtetly and understatement" and felt like being "run over by a tank, a singing tank." He's not wrong there!

I was given tickets to see this at the Dominion Gold screen in Edinburgh.

was not looking forward to it.

Sorry guys, I hated this. It was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo looooooooooooooooooooong! I kept checking my watch.

I thought Hugh Jackman gave a great and very convincing performance. I was not perturbed by Russel Crowe's singing, he was fine. I just didn't like the whole modern musical.

I am afraid the whole while Anne Hathaway was singing I dream a dream, having not seen the musical, or had a scooby what the song was really about before, could not get out of my head what an inappropriate song choice for Subo it was!! That thought probably didn't help me.

Anyway the musical impressarios of Morningside seemed to lap it up and gave it a round of applause at the end. Me and OH ran away quickly to get a big cup of coffee.

Sorry! Just not for me. A Marmite film I think!
