Saw JR on Hogmanay using a voucher despite saying Free List Suspended :cheer:
I have to say that I really enjoyed the film and thought Tom Cruise was very good in it. I was entertained for a few hours and kepy away from shops or housework! :shifty:
Marks 8.5/10

Christoph Waltz would have made a better villain than Werner Herzog, but that wouldn't have addressed the main casting issue.

Dry dialogue and really TV-feeling pacing/plotting for 100 minutes, then stupid action for 20. Didn't work for me, wasn't fun, funny or enthralling, just lame. Poor Werner.
These are pretty close to my thoughts. I used my O2 voucher to see this a few days ago and already I'm struggling to remember it. The opening scene was nicely done, but otherwise it was fairly dull.

I don't know the novels, but I'm aware of the casting controversy, but like others I just wanted to see a good film. Cruise seemed in full smarmy, grinning, wise crack mode whilst all the other characters kept building up his character... 'Reacher's a ghost' 'He's so tough' etc, etc and then Tom turns up like a cross between a poor mans Sherlock and 80s one liner Arnie. After about half an hour I was picturing Denzel or Neeson or Idris Elba or Tom Hardy in the role and imagining how much better it would have been.

It's a shame because the story is pretty good and Werner Herzog's scenes are great and Tom can be grittier, but here he had no real edge and neither did the film.

Like McG, I also saw this with one of my last vouchers which was expiring at the end of 2012. First of all the Odeon staff said we couldn't use our vouchers as the film was on the 'Free List Suspended' but then they tried to scan it and it went through thankfully. I wasn't keen on watching anything else.

Well I personally really liked it. I haven't read the Reacher books but I can forgive any claims of Tom Cruise being miscast as I thought he did a good job! Yes, I do think it would have been better if he looked more physically imposing but I think Cruise is a good actor and I don't feel let down when he turns action hero - maybe they are careful with the other co-stars they surround him with but he hardly looks weedy.

The whole reasoning behind villains actions was sketchy to say the least but if I gloss over that, I thought it was good. The few scenes with Herzog were intimidating and I was also impressed with Jai Courtney who played Herzog's main henchman. Am looking forward to seeing more of him in the future.

Not sure if any more Jack Reacher films are planned but I'd be keen on them. 8/10 for me.

And how old is Reacher supposed to be? I've noticed people suggesting actors who are in their late 20s, very early 30s. Isn't that a bit too young? Tom Cruise is 50, but could easily pass for early 40s on his worst day so I thought that was fitted well too.

Nothing fantastic (although not a Cruise fan) that said I enjoyed it and it did not tax my brain.

This was ok, however, did anyone else notice the massive plot hole at the end?
I also laughed at the beginning credits....a Tom Cruise Production

5/10
The mechanics of the story were good but praise goes to Lee Child for that!
The DA's assistant was actively involved with the Zek guy, yet at the end of the film, nothing was mentioned of the Zek or what he actually had to do with the entire film, or the fact the DA's collegue was dead(surely his other colleagues would have asked questions?)
