http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1682180/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

After India's father dies, her Uncle Charlie, who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her unstable mother. She comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives and becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

I would recommend you not to watch the trailer, but if you want to, here it is:

Who said films should be 120+ minutes?
This is a perfect example of short, superbly directed and edited film. It won't be everybody's taste, but I found it fantastic and quite refreshing for a thriller/horror movie.

8.5/10

Agreed. Didn't know Wentworth Miller had it in him. And Matthew Goode continues to command my full adoration. It was lovely, despite the amateur film critics giving their oral opinion down the row from me. :p

Saw this yesterday, thought it was rubbish, didn't make a whole lot of sense, few plot holes, gave more questions than answers, 2/10 purely as I like Mia's efforts.

Could anyone tell me how it compares with Park Chan-Wook's Korean films? I'm a big big fan of Oldboy and was wondering if this is similarly worth the effort to see.

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2012" club. I saw 32, which is rather delightful.. I beat Mr. Glass on free films but he narrowly inched me out on total films seen.

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2011" club. I saw 20, interestingly enough. My more realistic target was to see more free films than TheyCallMeMrGlass. I lost.

Still not sure what to think of this. It was wonderfully directed with brilliant cinematography, had some compelling performances, it held my attention throughout and has made me ponder it afterwards but not sure I enjoyed it exactly. It was suitably weird and creepy but not as graphic as I was expecting considering the 18 rating. An intriguing piece of film making that is both riveting and disturbing, but not a film for repeat viewing. 7.5/10.

The main reason for the 18 certificate.
The strongest sequence shows India masturbating in the shower as she recalls a violent killing she has witnessed. Sight of India masturbating is intercut with sight of the killing, which features a boy who has attempted to rape India being strangled with a leather belt as he lies on top of her with his jeans still pulled down. Eventually his neck snaps. The conflation of sexual and violent images requires an 18 classification.
A movie heavy on visuals and low on dialogue but with carefully accented performances (sometimes I thought a ittle overwrought, but the intention was to make them come across as unnerving/unnatural anyway).

There are no subplots of any substance and the flow of the film is all one way, but its makes the most of its unilateral structure from gothic moody emo story to gruesome murder tale superbly, until the final act, a bit of a letdown I think in not revealing all the answers.

Theere is another film that Stoker succinctly reminded me of but the title evades me now. Anyway, if you are a tv/dvd person then this would make just as good viewing on tv rather than at the cinema.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
