Last night I got round to watching Hitchcock (Good film! Not quite what I was expecting, and after seeing the BBC's The Girl with Toby Jones first, I couldn't help but compare, I have to say I think the girl might've had a bit more depth and gusto than Hitchcock, which seemed a lot lighter as a film than I expected, personally with the other Oscar nominations this year I can see why Hitch didn't cut the mustard but would love to hear other peoples opinions on this!) and to follow it up, good old Arrested Development, always a nice nightcap on an evening!

    Broadchurch ITV

    #2495 Post by newdot » Sat Mar 09, 2013 3:02 pm

Just finished watching first episode on ITV player, following very positive review on The Review show.

This is the first programme (other than occasional sport) that I have watched on ITV in about 6 years.

It looks very promising. Both Olivia Colman and David Tennant are excellent. I do keep thinking of Olivia's role in Hot Fuzz though, which is distracting :)

David Tennant has not been this good since starring in the great tv mini series, Blackpool.

I think this is the first of 8 episodes & is very much in the same family as The Killing. Praise does not come higher.

I do not own a tv, so cannot watch when broadcast, but will catch as soon as on ITV player.

I just finished watching the first episode of Broadchurch too (finally!) and have to second your comment, this is shaping up to be a very intense but excellent series.

However, I normally only watch BBC shows and TV downloaded from the US and I was really annoyed by the plethora of ad interruptions on ITV player, so distracting!

On the subject of David Tennant: Also agree he was very good in Blackpool (as well as Casanova, and from the older box: Takin' Over the Asylum) but he's done some excellent more recent work too such as the mini-series Single Father, Einstein and Eddington and a wealth of (West End) theatre one of which, Hamlet, has been put on DVD and I highly recommend.

An amateur production of Calendar Girls at the Concordia Theatre in Hinckley. It was excellent. In fact it was better than many professional plays and shows I have seen in London.
