I have never seen a film where 3d has improved the experience. This may be the first where 3d spoilt it.

Dingy drab lighting, out of sync 3d (first 10 minutes of film were unwatchable), blurred picutre.

This may have only been at the nottingham screening, I would be interested to hear from others who attended.

So to my major gripe.....screening was only half full. OK, it was a nice sunny day, but half full for one of the major film releases of the year !?

3d aside, I will b*y on dvd & probably enjoy it a whole lot better. May even p*y & go & see in 2d as there is an excellent film in there, somewhere.

film : 9/10
3d at nottingham screening: -3/10
overall 6/10.

Just caught this with a friend at the Glasgow screening and was thoroughly impressed!

To my mind, Abrams has surpassed his 2009 reboot of the franchise and advanced a previously used storyline from the Star Trek universe, developing it admirably. As with many of the others who have commented, I thought Cumberbatch was brilliant and I was very surprised at how physical he was in his role as John Harrison.

Negatives? I really wish Abrams wouldn't insist on using that lens flare technique in every other shot!

Definitely one I want to see again and look forward to adding to my DVD collection.

Just saw this at Greenwich O2 which was as usual pretty full, I agree about the 3D, didnt do much for me, a few scenes hurt my eyes. The movie was pretty good, action packed, had its funny moments and didn't drag on too much on the boring scenes, 7.8/10 from me.

Hated it. The film just kept doing things that infuriated me. What was the point of all the shifting captains and first officers at the start only to get back to the status quo ten minutes later? The movie was well short of laughs compared to the last one too.

Zachary Quinto screaming the villain's name just made me cringe and roll my eyes.

JJ Abrams is perfect for Star Wars. He's already made two!

Back from Glasgow. Almsot full and even surprised when two males came into the screening about 30 minutes into the film.

As a non trekkie I thought this was fantastic and totally enjoyed Benedict Cumberbatch's involvement to the film. Everyone was great and loved Pegg's Scotty. Personally I thought the 3D was done very well especially the first 10 or so minutes before the words Star Trek came onto the screen. Though the 3D effect faded as the film went on.
And now I know why Cumberbatch's Sherlock survived that fall. He is actually superhuman Khan :p
9/10

"Zachary Quinto screaming the villain's name just made me cringe and roll my eyes. "

...that was embarrassing. Although the geek in the Star Wars t-shirt behind me snorted his approval.

ps doesn't Simon Pegg look old in this ? (damn ! just wiki'd him...we are the same age & I look considerably older... :) )
