Re: Pacific Rim
Go, go, power rangers! I was so bored.
And those robot drivers all looked alike, the fight scenes were so dark that I could not see who's who.
Thanks to tsoiboy for the plus one, Beate for saving us seats (we were at the end of a long snake!) and lovely to see hdaniels and caitlinmorton.

Re: Pacific Rim
Take a dash of Starship Troopers, throw in a dose of Real Steel, sprinkle in some Godzilla... and you have Pacific Rim!!!
It was as expected, a "switch off brain (no pun intended) & leave it at the front door" popcorn movie. The monsters were freakish, the robots were cool, the CGI in general was brilliant, the 3D as usual largely pointless, the acting was offensively bad... but I kinda liked it.
A bit of a screw up at the start with the film starting 5 mins early & not in 3D. They realised early enough & started again in 3D.

They did open the balcony. It must've been very very late though. My cousin arrived at about 11.05 & watched the film from up there.Beate wrote:.But if I find out that they did open the balcony at the end to accommodate the steady stream of people, someone will get the mother of all complaints.

Re: Pacific Rim
Saw it yesterday. Very bland, though Ron Perlman steals the few scenes that he's in.

And what was that with starting the film early? Even the second time was 5 minutes early. Really idiotic.
Btw, can someone tell me what the end of credits scene was? We were just on the way out and only heard that someone complained about a shield?
Re: Pacific Rim
Was expecting to hate this and really was pleasantly surprised. The script was terrible, but it lived up to budget (read: it didn't look cheap), and I always love some Idris Elba. Thought the concept was unique, though did spot a major plothole in that
all those robot-alien fights in the ocean should have caused some seriously massive tsunamis
but overall I didn't hate it like I sort of expected to. My friend agreed.
Didn't realize the lower bit of the Superscreen was not flat, was pleasantly surprised to go in and see it slope, was only ever able to see the flat bit at the front from the balcony so just assumed it was all flat and horrid, but we actually got really good seats. The gaffe with the 3D was annoying, though we probably should have realized it before the film, as my friend and I noticed it was still blurry with 3D glasses on when just looking at the Sky thing! The guy in front of us was claiming that since it was RealD 3D, we didn't have the right glasses. Glad he was wrong, that would have been a nightmare!
A lot less security than I expected, but a crazy queue, is it always this way for the weekend Sky events? I don't think I've ever been!
Ron Pearlman wasn't killed when he was eaten by the baby Kaiju. He cut open its stomach and said "where's my other shoe?" It was less than 10 seconds long
Re: Pacific Rim
Well things were a bit of a disaster today at the O2, turned up at about 9:40 am to find the shutters down and when they eventually opened them it was the side that was opposite to where I was standing that was opened first
.
Things then went from irritating to very annoying when we were informed that the balcony was only going to available if the main section of the super screen got filled
. As I thought it was highly unlikely that the main section wouldn't get filled I went upstairs only for one of the security guards to come up five minutes later to say that there wasn't any guarantee that the balcony would be used today. As I wasn't willing to risk not getting a decent seat (or even worse not getting into the screening at all) I went back downstairs and started queuing (at the end of what was already a very long queue) for the main section.
Seemed to take them absolutely ages to let people inside but once I eventually got in there I was relieved to see that decent seats were still available. I really thought that it would be plain sailing from that point onwards but unfortunately when the film started it was out of focus & not in 3D and it took them about five minutes to rectify these problems (they then (thankfully) stopped the film and restarted it from the beginning
).
As for the film itself, well I thought that it was well worth the trials & tribulations that preceded it and for me it was just an absolutely fantastic big budget summer blockbuster
. Loved the design & implementation of both the Kaiju & Jaegers and felt the fight sequences were very well choreographed indeed.
Although performance wise the only actors that really stood out were Mana Ashida (as 'Young Mako') & Ron Perlman I still thought everyone else involved was pretty solid and I even warmed to the two (initially) very irritating research scientists by the time we were about midway through the movie
. Story wise I'm not going to pretend there was anything particular deep going on here but it moved along at a decent pace and to be fair this film was more about delivering a visual spectacle (which it did in spades).
Overall, this is my second favourite film of the year (so far) and the second film this year that I feel is worthy of receiving a 9/10 from my good self
...
P.S For those that didn't make it to today's screening, I'd say that it's trailers are pretty representative of the film that is on offer so maybe use that as a guide when deciding whether or not to go and see this when it opens nationwide on Friday...
P.P.S did anyone else hang around for the mid credits bonus scene?...

Hmmm. I'm wondering if there is a boy/girl divide on this one?
