Saw this in Braehead tonight which was about 60% full. No Sky rep to collect tickets when we arrived so just directed to the room. Rep did appear and collected from those seated already but folk were coming in so fast she couldn't get outside to collect tickets!
I do not know why this film was made in B & W . . . or perhaps even at all! :p
I didn't find anything funny in the film and think the film company could be sued under Trades Description. The story could have been ok but the whole package failed. I'd no real empathy for any characters though the acting was acceptable.
I can't imagine ever choosing to watch this film again and am very glad I did not invite anyone else to be my +1.
Marks 3.5/10

ps We had 2 very ignorant folk in the back row . . . hopefully not FMUKers! Feet on and over the back of the chair in front. Did not take kindly to being asked politely to take her feet off the chair . . . and her "friend" who had a large mouth then decided to join in a private conversation between myself and karenlg123. These 2 folk were not teenagers but middle aged females . . . definitely NOT ladies! :wall: :X :wall:

I'm actually annoyed having to review this film at all, so I won't entirely.
I generally tend to like indie films, so expected to find something worthwhile about this film - unfortunately I can't. This is the worst film that I have seen this year so far. I very rarely walk out of films, however with this one I came very close - several times.
It was particularly frustrating as I had tickets to see Frozen Ground but it was full & they sent me in to see this rubbish instead! My fault of course for not getting to the former early enough, however what a punishment, I had to succumb to watching this pretentious dross. Filming it in Black & White made it even more annoying since in this case it really did not work for it.
I've just checked the running time on imdb and I am shocked that it was only 86 minutes long because it felt like hours. Also I am bemused by the fact that they give it a 7.7 rating. Well I give it 0/10 because I'll never get those hours back!
Hated it with a passion!

I'm perplexed  having just watched Greenberg on Film4 that this (Noah Baumbach) was the same person who directed and wrote Frances Ha. Except for the lovely Greta Gerwig, I felt Greenberg and Frances Ha were as different as chalk and cheese. I enjoyed Greenberg & yet found Frances Ha boring and extremely irritating. I guess in exploring one's creativity we can all make serious mistakes, which is (in my humble opinion) what Frances Ha is.

I'd hazard a guess that this is aided by Gerwig's work on the writing of the film. The films she chooses are often of the kind of tone and style and feeling of Frances, so perhaps Baumbach's want to change up and go back to his more comic roots were enhanced by Gerwig's want to create the most Gerwiggy character yet, and Frances Ha happened. Like a laboratory experiment that breaks out and decimates entire city blocks.

I saw this on Tuesday at Leeds light. There were 6 walkouts.

I do not think the film achieves what it sets out to. I found it's sentiment quite hopeless rather than hopeful, and i am quite sure it was intended to be hopeful!

I did not empathise with the characters, possibly because of the haphazard nature of the film (which of course was intended), and maybe because it was in black and white. The soundtrack did not support the content. Haphazard - and yes i "get" that was the idea. It did not feel haphazard in an "arty" way - just completely confused. If that makes sense, as i left confused and quite disheartened about life in general if i am honest!!

Wow, just caught up with this thread. Am thinking I may give this a miss now. Can I ask, is it as bad as that awful film, Sleeping Beauty? Do other fmukers remember that torture?! :X

If Frances Ha is as bad as that then I won't waste my time.

I never saw it. I guess you have to go keep track of people that seem to like the same films as you. I can rely on KK for a good review, a lot of other people I can end up hating what they love etc,
