You're Next
Re: You're Next
What can I say? This was a severe disappointment.
As soon as it became apparant that this was a crime-type film rather than a supernatural film this was ruined for me. I was expecting a horror film and prepared for a slasher-type movie but was sorely disappointed.
A tribe of characters that I could care less about and a bizarre choice of cheezy 80's electronic music cemented my low impression of this. Yes there is some gratuitous violence, but even that is so over-done and over-acted that it merely becomes comedic rather than shocking. Add to this the ubiquitous "hammer-into-water melon" sound effect used for everything from a stabbing to an axe to a head and you can tell the sort of nonsense this is.
I have to say that I saw an advert for this film pasted to a telephone kiosk near my house yesterday and the simple "YOU'RE NEXT scrawled in red blood actually looked disturbingly real. Having seen the film it just seems pitiful. So glad no shekels of mine were wasted seeing this and glad I wasn't embarassed by having invited a +1.
5/10 and that's being generous.

Re: You're Next
It's from 2009, so not sure if it was a free screening or not. It takes place in high school, and does have a slight supernatural element to it, but is similar in that its so gory and over the top its funny. You're Next immediately reminded me of it. I really enjoyed Tormented, and didn't hate you're next either.tibba wrote:Can't say that I've seen Tormented, but I'll certainly look out for it if it's of similar style. Would you recommend it?caitlinmorton wrote:This remind anyone else of Tormented, because of the comedic elements?
Was it a free screening? You guys get so much more freebs than we do. You're so lucky.
Hope that helps!

We really should meet sometime! Next time I'm at a screening waiting for it to start I'll PM you.Beate wrote:Didn't know you were there too! Didn't exactly spoil the ending, but still, it was distracting.
Btw, they seem to have given up the annoying "wait in the bar" directive, or have we just been lucky this week? We walked straight in both today and yesterday.

Re: You're Next
Won't help much as I don't have a fancy internet phone I am afraid but I am usually at WIQ when there's a screening.
Re: You're Next
I've got tickets for Thursday's screening, but I'm not a big home invasion/slasher movie fan.
After glancing at the comments here it does seem a bit different, do people think there's enough in there to appeal to us not horror fans? - The last thing I want to see is some video nasty type film.

I love horror but i hate Video Nasty type stuff, it's definitely Home Invasion/Slasher though but i think there is enough to this film for anyone to be able to give it one watch without hating it x

Re: You're Next
By the end of the film it's transformed into really dark comedy rather than horror. There's a few gory moments, but the film doesn't dwell on them too much.yogi wrote:I've got tickets for Thursday's screening, but I'm not a big home invasion/slasher movie fan.

Re: You're Next
Saw this last night in Wandsworth. Having raced all the way there after having seen the Understudy performance of Fences, we arrived with three minutes to spare before it started. Expected to find no seats but the auditorium was less than 50% full, which did not bode well. I thought the movie was simply dire - very bad acting, with very annoying actors and a very predictable plot. The audience was laughing all the way through, but I didn't even rate it as a comedy movie. I was looking at my watch every five minutes - very difficult to sit through to the end.
A terrible movie, would definitely not recommend it to anyone. I would give it 1/10 - and that one point is only because they used the apostrophe correctly in the title.
