Hey Mrs Beate. Permission to upgrade my score? Please Miss.

Decided to catch this again this morning and it is just as good iof not better on a second viewing. Loved it.
Can I reiterate - Poor Duncan!
I kinda almost caught myself feeling sorry for Nasty Trent too. I almost empathised with him having to deal with a Kevin-the-Teenager and his stroppy moods, particularly one that isn't yours...but no. I'm Team Duncan, all the way.

I so see how this film was meant to be set in the 80's but the budget just didn't stretch to the incidental scenery and extras...such as shop fronts, gas stations and period cars that they would have had to fursnish the exterios sets with, but hey - do I care? Nup!

Brilliant characterisations. Fantastic acting. Still wanna see the real Duncan to see if he is a regular Hollywood child actor - all super-confident and articulate...or whether he was just playing himself!
Great story too. The image of Mum and Duncan at the end pretty much says it all.

I could have watched this for an other 1 1/2 hours easily.

9.5/10

0.5 deducted because there wasn't enough!

On another note - I joined the queue in Wester Hailles, Edinburgh to see a family of 2 adults and 6 children ranging in ages ahead of me, and having presented the guy with 4 double tickets he noticed that 2 of them were photocopies of the other 2! Fair play to him though - he didn't accuse them of fraud nor make a scene (particularly as kids were involved) and simply said that 4 could get in anyway, but the others would have to wait until it started to see if there were spare seats. I guess he could have thrown them all out and reported them to SFF. I'd have been a bit miffed if I had not been allowed in arriving later than them and then found out after they'd conned their way in.
They did all get in.

I could so easily see this yet again instead of About Time on Tuesday.....Hmmmmmmm!

A very gentle sweet film with some excellent performances from the cast. A pleasant way to start our Sunday morning.

8/10 from me

Really enjoyed this. Although it was predictable at times, I didn't mind as it was charmingly done.

Not the most ambitious movie I've seen lately, but warm-hearted and pleasant and nicely uncynical. It reminded me a little bit of Submarine, although this setting has a bit more sun than Swansea! The only gripe is that while it tells its story effectively and clearly, the film never really ventures into any new territory and no plot development surprises you. But still, a nice way to spend a Sunday morning!

Holloway was packed today.

Had high expectations after reading the reviews on here, so was a tad disappointed. Found it a bit slow. Not the worse film in the world, but not the funniest. Would have preferred to see The Millers again. 6 out of 10.

Would have liked to see Duncan kick Trent in the nuts.

Not many at the Cameo in Edinburgh and the film was late in starting as the guy had trouble getting it to load. However, comfortable seats now in screen 1 and an easy watch film. Funny to see Steve Carell playing the "bad guy". Poor Duncan and I wonder how many families can relate to the guy taking over when he starts dating the "Mom". 7/10

Yeah - what others have said. I found it nice and gentle but a little unexciting, just meandering along, and the ending could have been better. Though all performances were good, it didn't really go over new ground. I wish I had a Water Whizz close to me though - looks like fun!

Duncan's an 8/10 for me.

This was such a great film - possibly my favourite this year, up there with Mud. Superb casting, characters sensitively and believably portrayed, gentle and sweet, and an identifiable coming of age story to boot. Such a change from the noisy, special effect all action movies that dominate. Really made my Sunday morning! Worth catching if you can. A worthy 9.5/10 from me.
