Prisoners
Re: Prisoners
I also thought it was an outstanding film, possibly even better than his previous film (Incendies).

Re: Prisoners
Marmite then, you either love it or hate it :) interesting to read reviews comparing it to Zodiac, Silence of the lambs etc. i enjoyed all the films this has been compared to strangely enough as the characters were fully developed and I cared about what happened to them. Maybe I just completely missed the 'greatness' of this one.
Re: Prisoners
Wicked film
But really there are some f**k*d up
People out in the world
Best part for me was the part the mask came off and the guys face looked like he had been stung by a freaking bee

Re: Prisoners
I am still wondering, why did the crime happened.. What was the reason behind it, may be I was sleeping in the film.
If someone here can explain me, then it would be great :)
Above statement gives my view of the review... It was tooo long first of all and with some good scenes, but can't really still make out the purpose behind the crime... I would go with 3-4/10

Re: Prisoners
Saw this tonight at Vue Islington and lovely to see Funthing29 and Beate and her OH.
I really had not much expectations for this film but was pleasantly surprised. Quite a good workman like thriller with all the right ingredients. The suspense was pretty much there and this was kept up well but there were some bits that dragged a little and maybe the film could have been trimmed by 10-15 mins.
Some bits were a bit implausible but hey every now and then you do have to suspend belief.
The acting was good all round especially from Jake Gyllenhaal. Hell even Hugh Jackman was good.
The ending was not too predictable and not too Hollywood. Which is something I always like.
A solid 8/10.

Re: Prisoners
As soon as someone tells me exactly what happened in the last 10 minutes or so I will be able to rate the film.

A horse walks into a bar and the bartender asks, "Why the long face?"
A pony walks into the bar and whispers, "I'll have a beer, please." The barkeeper asks, "Why are you whispering?".
"I'm a little hoarse."

Re: Prisoners
We've had a run of movies with poor endings recently,.The Call,Girl Most Likely and now this.Beate wrote:As soon as someone tells me exactly what happened in the last 10 minutes or so I will be able to rate the film.
Film was too long and confused me,what was the snake mans connection to the abduction and what did the young girl say to Hugh Jackmans character in the hospital to make him run out ? (Please don't answer and spoil it for those that haven't seen it yet)
Re: Prisoners
I was a bit concerned that this was so long after a long day at work, but I loved this.
Gripping, absorbing, tense with great performances all round.
I'm hoping there's plenty of spoiler tags cos I think I may have missed some of the finer details of the plot, but that's no reflection at all on the film.
Interesting how some films only just over 90 minutes can test the patience so much more than a film like this when my attention was gripped throughout. Good call whoever said Zodiac, very similar pace and plotting. 8.5/10
Bob Taylor was meant to have been abducted as a child for three weeks by Holly Jones and her husband but managed to get free. The suggestion was that he had psychological trauma and imitated kidnappings as an adult (hence him stealing the clothing from the two girls' houses).

Joy said something like 'you were there' so Hugh Jackman's character realised the girls were being kept at Alex's aunt's house.
