Labor Day
Labor Day
Saw this at the LFF Gala tonight (long story) and found it to be very good. The performances were great, and it was cool to see a bunch of known actors in bit parts. The friend I saw it with thought it would get a lot of awards buzz but wouldn't win anything. I'm inclined to agree. I think it was very good, but not quite up to the level that Captain Phillips and Rush were on.
It was not what I was expecting at all, but in a good way. Thought the casting was excellent, especially the older/younger versions of some of the main characters. Very different from what I expected of a Jason Reitman film but in a good way.

Re: Labor Day
Loved loved loved it. Such a beautiful film. No violence, no swearing, no fast cars, no utopian storylines, just a story about some people during a long, sweltering holiday weekend trying to be happy again. Such strong performances from the leads - I might see this again.

Back from Glasgow. I really enjoyed this and didn't find it as slow as others thought it was. A nice wee story about love with characters you actually felt something for. 7/10

Re: Labor Day
What an absolute PEACH of a movie! It even has peaches in it!
Beautifully shot and set in the very recent past.
A complete surprise to me. Not without its poignant moments and snippets of humour.
Really good and one you could take your granny to as well (cf. Starred Up!)

Re: Labor Day
Oh gosh, the peach pie looked delicious. You gotta love a man who can cook and bake.
Did I say I had wet eyes at the end? Always a sign I enjoyed a movie.

Re: Labor Day
Saw in a busy Braehead tonight. I found this film to be slow . . . mind you, I didn't fall asleep so there was just enough to keep my interest.
I did find the occasional flashbacks a little annoying as they did not always fit in with a relevant part of the film.
I did find Kate Winslet to be very good in the part of the mother. She definitely looked the part in a physical sense!
The story had a good potential but I just felt it lacked something so was a little disappointed.
Glad it was free though I probably would have pa*d to see this as it's the type of film I usually enjoy.
Marks 5.5/10
