Is it that black and white? The article mentions that there were critics on both sides even if it does call the opposition delusional/dumb.
Does Prisoners really come down that hard on torture when
it's prolonged use yields another snippet of information. You think the other family might but a stop to it but it's actually endorsed. When the detective explores the scene we're supposed to be relieved when he's called away. Any mental effect on Hugh still doesn't stop him finding his daughter. The legal repercussions are only mentioned in a throwaway line of dialogue. We get the 'happy' ending of him being found and there are probably plenty of viewers who think it was all a necessary evil.

That ending wasn't happy, and since I did not see Hugh being rescued, there a chance Loki, who had some serious issues, just walked away. Yeah, he probably got rescued, but don't assume it happened.
Although I like it that's a particularly dark interpretation I think the presence of the
whistle means he's inevitably found to close that circle, if it had have been just shouting or something the other prisoner had done then it would have been an ending that was left for the audience to interpret.
Super movie right up to the point when...
granny pulls out a gun
had the film ended just before this, it would probably have been my film of the year.

This was tense and could have been up there with Silence of the Lambs (at least for me), unfortunately there was way too much exposition and it was tooooooooo long. I was glad when it stopped.
6.5/10
edit: just reading the reviews now and I see I was not the only one thinking of Silence of the Lambs. Very good comparison with Zodiac too, although both of them did brilliantly what Prisoners failed so badly in my opinion!

Although this didn't manage to live up to my expectations I still thought it was very decent indeed.
As far as pacing goes I think they got it just right as it definitely helped me to empathise with what both sets of parents were going through. I thought that performance wise both Jackman & Gyllenhaal were excellent in this and the ending was pretty solid (although it wasn't as shocking and/or jaw dropping as I'd hoped it would be).
I will admit that there were a couple of things that I did find a bit questionable, the first of which involved someone being unable to connect two rather obvious pieces of evidence and the second involving someone else having a 'light bulb' moment seemingly out of nowhere (I now understand the why of this particular scene but still don't think it was made particularly clear).
But despite the above, the pros of this movie far outweighed the cons therefore it more than deserves an 8/10 from me

A rather good thriller spoiled by Huge Ackman's horrid beard. Took me until 3/4 of the way through before I saw through it and actually recognised him. Lol.
Have to say that I am still rather confused by the two very similar suspects, but I can live with that. There seemed to be quite a few leads that remained unexplained (for me at least, and I did remain awake throughout!).
One or two continuity issues with snow on the ground one minute and rain the next, also noticed some light and darkness boobs.
A good 8/10 from me.
My 8th movie in 2 days! I now officially have 16:9 eyes (and a numb bum!)

Cineworld Unlimited is cheating! ;-)

Caught this at a late screening and really enjoyed this. Seemed to get on at quite a slow pace but thought the story was explained in quite a good way with nothing fancy or over-the-top.
There may have been a few things that didn't make much sense but I'm willing to forgive considering that much else that half as good.

My work pa*d for me to go to a Vue Extreme show (for research for a brief) and since my choices last night were this and Captain Phillips (which I saw last week), I chose to see this again.
Caught a couple things I missed the first time round and still really enjoyed it. Glad I went again. Captain Phillips two weeks in a row would have been too much I think.
