My friend was convinced that the black removal man was also in the funeral scene. Couldnt really tell myself though.raj101 wrote:In a nutshell, I find it impossible to believe that none of the films public participants realised that the most bizarre events were not staged. You know, no one can be that stupid as to see a grandad with obviously plastic flaps out as anything but staged, so I am not sure why the public are depicted as accepting it as a real reactions. Certainly we the viewers aren't stupid enough to believe that the 'members of the public' in the scenes weren't pa*d actors for a LOT of the scenes.D-Fens wrote:I don't really understand your point, are you saying that everyone was acting and there was a camera crew we didn't see or it was so obvious that they were using hidden cameras that we didn't need to see them at the end?raj101 wrote:Its also way too obvious that the movie is largely setup and not shot naturally, so I don't know why they wasted time trying to make out it was all filmed with hidden cameras in the credits. I don't know, I wish I knew, definitely not the ages of the characters. If I did I'd be in a flash office in Hollywood right now.D-Fens wrote:Interesting because those are definitely the same genre of comedy, do you think it was something to do with the characters being an old guy and a young kid and it's just harder to find humour in those personalities rather than the 'idiots' from the other movies?yogi wrote:I love Jackass and Borat, which I guess this is similar to, but just found this really hard work. Not offended just not amused.

Like a lot of actors and comedians have said in the past if comedy isn't working unlike drama etc then its very obvious... you are not laughing.
It's such a gut reaction that can defy analysis, like loving Extras Series 1 and not liking the 2nd series at all, this didn't make me laugh and Jackass and Borat did. It seemed lazy at the start, just making strangers uncomfortable isn't enough. (Did like the parcel/postal scene though)

Re: Bad Grandpa
Maybe that's it though, in Extras Series 2 they made Maggie really dumb just to make many jokes that she was acting inappropriately. Most of the jokes in Bad Grandpa are to do something outrageous and see how people will react. Borat is a lot more about interaction, you're not quite sure how people will take him and Jackass isn't really a movie but the laughs probably come from the unexpected, when things don't go to plan and excess. So you might just prefer a more organic comedy rather than being expected to laugh at things you know are going to happen?
Re: Bad Grandpa
Funny scenes, most already shown in the trailer, only about 8-9 pranks in the movie (disc. credit scenes).
Johnny Knoxville & "Fun Size" Kid are funny, other actors... Meh..

Re: Bad Grandpa
Saw this at Glasgow Cineworld with my OH. I haven't really enjoyed Jackass previously but have to say this was much funnier than I was expecting...crude, rude and close to the bone throughout but nevertheless extremely entertaining.
Like previous comments I'd have to agree, the poor boy....he's probably scarred for the rest of his life!
7.5/10
(My OH would have given this more marks than me)

Loved this like I knew I would!
Have to admit that I'm not convinced either about this not being scripted or set-up, but none-the-less it is genius. For example the funeral scene. How otherwise would they have attenders of the funeral not in on the joke? Thought the restaurant scene was the funniest though, particularly as it hadn't been seen in the trailer, unlike the pageant scene which was still funny.
What a cute kid too.

Re: Bad Grandpa
Saw this at the weekend and although I didn't think it was quite as funny as previous Jack Ass movies I still really enjoyed it (IMO the 'Ladies Night' & 'Beauty Pageant' sections represented the comedic high points).
Jackson Nicoll's performance in this was surprisingly good & I liked how his relationship with Johnny Knoxville's 'Bad Grandpa' developed over time. Overall I thought this was a very decent comedic road movie so it gets a more than respectable 8/10 from me

Re: Bad Grandpa
I saw this at Covent Garden awhile back. It was pretty funny but not as good as the previous Jackass films. The Ladies Night and pageant scenes where the funniest for me. We were told that there would be a stunt with Jonny Knoxville after the film so lots of us filed out at the end. There were loads of grandads and women in tiny shorts and T-shirts freezing their buns off in the cold. Jonny turned up and there was a press shoot but I was still waiting for the actual stunt. After waiting in the cold for ages along with everyone else, I asked an official looking events woman when the stunt will be and she told me the photo shot WAS the stunt. At which I promptly left..what a waste of time.

Re: Bad Grandpa
Saw this last week, knew it wouldn't be your typical Jackass movie as this one actually has some form of plot, (even though it's just a loose plot).
Highlights for me were the beauty pageant, ladies night, and when they're both sat in the diner near the end. I cried with laughter at all three, so funny.
Quite liked Knoxville as a Bad Grandpa, wouldn't mind seeing a sequel. Great bit of fun, nothing too serious!
I'd give it a 7/10.
