First of all, many thanks to caitlinmorton and jeanelle for keeping me company during a ridiculously long wait for the film to start. I just don't expect a 90 minute wait for a screening in a small cinema with no glitz and glamour to the evening. Empire screen one (RIP), yes, Cineworld Haymarket, no.

This is basically a film about female relationships focussed around the loos in a nightclub. I can understand the premise, actually I saw a short play recently about male relationships, set entirely in the gents. I enjoyed that play a lot more. Powder Room would work better as a piece of theatre, it would be interesting to see the play on which the film is based.

It felt like a lot of the movie was about scene setting, and it was quite slow for the most part. I couldn't stop thinking about that awful wedding film with Mickey from Doctor Who (I'm tired, sorry, you know the one that I mean), but thankfully it didn't turn into a similar mess, it was fairly mediocre, but not plain awful. Just a little bit rubbish.

The ending, although a thoroughly inevitable one, was pleasant, and it was nice to end on a slightly higher point. I know the - producer? - sorry, still tired - asked us all to p*y to see the film again and drag friends and family to see it, but I don't want to see this again and I can't think of anyone I know who would want to see it. I wouldn't recommend using a voucher for this, let alone p*ying for it - actually, the more I type, the less enthusiastic my faint praise is getting.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend this at all. My OH was away and couldn't make it tonight - he's a fan of SS, she was ok ish with the role, such as it was - but I suspect he'd have walked out.

To all fans of SS, don't see this, you'll upset yourself, save your money for the new time she's on stage. I hear she's a great live actress.

It was shite and Sheridan Smith should be ashamed of herself for agreeing to star in this piece of crap.

How this can be classed as a comedy is beyond me. I did not find it remotely funny.

2/10.
I could have told yu that from the trailer

I loved it! It's amazing how they transformed the mundane into something fantastical and gripping onscreen. Outstanding performances by pretty much everyone and a razor sharp script. It's pretty stunning how it manages to juggle being genuinely moving and hilarious within the same scene - sometimes even within the same shot. Even something as simple as pretty much only having female characters goes a long way towards making things feel fresh and unique. Also a damn good soundtrack.

One of the best British films I've seen this year and it deserves to do very well. I predict it's going to end up as a cult classic. 4/5.

Nice to meet everyone btw!

I had a feeling you were going to love this, LCN. We seem to have polar opposite tastes in film and theatre. ;) Glad someone enjoyed this!

I very nearly had a tear in my eye at some points too - even though I'm a guy there's some painfully familiar emotional territory in the film.

What did your OH think, Beate? (BTW, nice to finally put a face to your name! ;) )

And ejwrank, did your son turn up? What did he think?

Would be interesting to hear some more male reviews.

the reality of female toilets is probably not anywhere near this then, just plays to 'male fantasy/imagination'
possibly

Nothing so specific as the location: just, for example, the feeling of shame and embarrassment when you're caught out badmouthing someone you're friends with behind their back, or walking out of a club and finding one of your friends crying outside or even something as lame as realising that you've got no clean underwear in the house.

The line about going on Facebook and seeing that everyone else is off doing amazing things and being stuck under a slate-grey oppressive sky really moved me as well. I thought the film captured that nihilistic frustration of feeling like everyone knows what they're doing except you.
