The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Re: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
It's trying to be all heartfelt and sweet, but I got nothing out of this at all. A big part of the problem is that Mitty's 'real' adventures, when he's chasing Sean Penn around the globe, don't feel any more plausible than his fantasies - he's performing feats that someone who's been sat behind a desk for 16 years just shouldn't be capable of. (And why has he done nothing for so long? OK, they give reasons in the film, but I don't b*y them. Not one single holiday?)
Adam Scott has the worst beard I've ever seen in a film, like a piece of carpet stuck to his chin. I kept wondering if it was meant to look that bad or not. I was also wondering how much money they got from eHarmony for all that product placement, and what kind of deal they had with Life, and whether Life even still exists.
Still, nice scenery.

Ditto on the obnoxious eHarmony product placement. Thought it spoiler an otherwise nice, sincere film about overcoming masculine power fantasies. It's a bit sad really, a film with some genuine heart behind it thematically all screwed up because some dating site chucked a bunch of a money at a film studio.

I agree fully with funthing, started out alright but lost its touch as it went on. Gorgeous to look at though.

Re: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
I thought this was ok. It was a "im glad i never pa*d for that" kind of film to be brutally honest about it.
The scenery element to this was great. However, whilst the chemistry between all the characters in the movie was good, it just didnt translate to any connection with me.

Spectacular scenery and a rousing soundtrack - a truly beautiful film to look at. What a pity it is so irritating and crappy. Some of the jokes and little vigniettes are just cringe-worthy. Oh and don't get me started on beards! It is just about only Shirley Maclaine who doesn't end up with one by the end. Add to this a story that virtually isn't - a man looking for another man and a lost photo. Hmmmm. What an amazing script! Not!
A second viewing to catch up on the points where I "zoned-out" during first one. My opinion remains steadfastly unchanged.
An interesting arrangement today with an afternoon screening immediately followed by the usual 6.30 showing. The afternoon was reassuringly filled, and it was fun walking out at 6.15 to see a queue snaking down the corridor, knowing I'd usually be in it. Only a small number of walk-outs about half way through. I wonder if they were rushing across town to see Railway Man.

Re: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
I had avoided trailers until sat when I saw them with the Hunger Games this w/e. nearly didn't go as thought the trailer was terrible.
I was surprised that I really enjoyed this film, and enjoyed it more once the fantasties petered out and we moved locations. loved sean penn.
very beautiful to look at, too.
wish I had seen it sooner so I could see it again.

Re: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Saw this at Glasgow last night with OH, teddybear1 and Ploggit.
Like others I found this a very long two hours. It really wasn't my kind of film at all. Found that I didn't really engage with the characters at all. Was surprised at the lack of walk outs. Glad that I hadn't p**d.
Didn't think this was a film for children, young children but there were a few there - who went to the toilet regularly throughout!
Only 3/10 from me.

Re: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Saw this in Wimbledon. The scenery was absolutely stunning and the soundtrack was brilliant. But the film? Hated it - with a vengeance. Ben Stiller had the same expression (open-mouthed, little boy lost) for the best part of the film. The plot and script were appalling and all the characters (apart from Kirsten Wiig’s) were one-dimensional. Have nothing else to say as whatever else I said would all be variations on the theme of how much I hated it. 2/10 from me (one point for the scenery and one for the soundtrack).
Nearly forgot - someone brought a baby into the auditorium as well, so we had all sorts of baby noises throughout the film, which didn't exactly add to my enjoyment! If you are reading this - what were you thinking of?
