I don't like having to ask, but opticians will never give you your prescription otherwise, will they? They just say "it'll be here whenever you need it" because obviously they don't want you to b*y glasses anywhere else. Understandable, but once you've had the sight test, you are entitled to a copy.

I always ask for a copy of my prescription and have never been refused.

You shouldn't need to ask. They are required to give you a copy. The only information they don't normally just give out is the PD (pupillary distance) which is the distance between the centres of your eyes. Its necessary to get this right so that the lenses are properly centred with your eyes.

Yes, I do know they are required to give you a copy, but in practice - in my experience, at least - they don't unless you ask. And I've read about the PD measurement, steve9872, which could be a pain if you wanted to order online, but I've never risked doing so, partly for that very reason.

Lovely weather at present; see Preston was out cycling yesterday and I was walking. Definitely an advantage to cycle when it comes to negotiating flooded roads and paths which have become quagmires or even quaking bogs.

Had a good (if muddy - have spent time today cleaning boots, which I loathe doing) day but was delayed by no fewer than 3 people stopping me to ask for info. First a lady who seemed to be local (a dog-walker) but did not recognise the road number I mentioned - and this was an A-road and dual carriageway almost within earshot!

Then another lady, this time with 2 lively dogs, who said her 'phone battery was dying and that she could not find the car park where she had left her (borrowed!) vehicle, which she thought must have been stolen. I spent some time trying to help her but she was obviously so confused and distracted that she either wasn't listening or couldn't believe what I was telling her - even when she kept repeating her questions and I my answers. I pointed out the direction she wanted and showed her on my map, but to no avail. In the end, sorry as I felt for her, I just wanted to escape and get on with my walk.

Lastly a male van driver looking for a pub he used to know, really hidden away in the hills. Luckily I did know where it was, and he'd just passed it but missed the turning. But what with all that lot, no wonder I didn't cover as great a distance as I'd hoped. Next time I will have to aim for somewhere more remote, or hope that those I meet will know where they are and how to get to where they're going!

I'm after some advice here. I'm finally able to get a new sofa. I've found somewhere that delivers the sofa ready to be built in the home .

So does anyone have a leather or imitation leather sofa or the same in suede? Are they hot in the summer? This company has so many different materials and colours its hard to choose thanks vx

I can't advice you about leather or suede fabric, as I don't have one, but I b*ght from them 5 years ago. I have narrow staircase up to my flat and the only way to get anything in is flat pack, or through the 2nd floor window, which means taking out the window frame etc, hoisting it over the first floor flat's balcony, and I had to get someone to do that, at an extra expense, so this company is a godsend as the sofas can be made up inside the home.

I did go to the showroom to view first, somewhere in Uxbridge. The sofa's are really solid, the only thing that is a disadvantage for me is that they are not on wheels like my old sofa, as I like to periodically move my furniture around, to get a fresh feel in my living space, and these are so, so heavy, it is impossible to move on my own.

I have an imitation leather sofa in my house and we have covers for them.
They dont get hot in the summer but without a cover you do find yourself sticking to them as you sweat :S
And in the winter if you sit without a cover, by god is it cold. :S

I can't stand shiny leather sofas but suede fabric ones are very nice. I had one in Germany and loved it, the only downside is that you have to be extremely careful not to bring dirt on to them or spill anything as they are tough to clean.

Thanks for all the advice, I wasn't going to go for a shiny dark one, but was thinking of a cream or beige colour. PXC, that's interesting that you b*ght from them! I'm in the same boat, narrow stairs and doors, and a tiny room I heard they were heavy pieces of furniture, but I would only need to move to clean as there is no where else in the room where the sofa could go.

I'm still trying to get to the showroom, but the tubes seem to be down every weekend
