Went to the Telegraph screening at The Courthouse Hotel tonight. Nice to see mandmc10 there too, but not a good turnout. Screening only half full. An elderly couple walked out half way through.

Found it entertaining, but would prefer less repetitive talk, that many great hits were only great with back up singers, she could have been a star, etc. etc., and more singing.

The voices were amazing and beautiful. Shame, their solo careers did not do well, I think they were at the wrong place, at the wrong time, one was exploited (and ended cleaning houses for a living!), and others just did not get the right marketing. Sad. They deserve recognition. 8/10

Just been to Glasgow Showcase to ask about tonight's showing of it. They are only showing one screening of it so SFF ticket holders and Insider card members will all be in one screen and it won't start till the Insider time which is 19:30 and not 19:00. This is in Glasgow but it won't surprise me if it is across all the screenings.

The guy I spoke to said he is going to contact someone as apparently they thought SFF tickets were the same time.

EDIT: Just got an email from SFF regarding the time change.

Preview starts at 19:30 tonight.

Wow can those girls sing and I agree with everything that alythonian says - perfectly put. Shame there was only 14 people at Manchester :noo:
alythonian wrote:Edinburgh was busy tonight and everyone stayed until the end of the credits.

I loved this as a music documentary. I could have quite happily sat and just listened with my eyes closed and let the voices weave their magic. As an amateur musician with many friends who've made the jump to professionals, I could totally empathise with the ladies (and gent) as to the whys and wherefors as to what they didn't have to have made it to the big time, or those that did and then fell back again. the stories, the songs, the voices it all blended and harmonised beautifully. Phil Spector - what a manipulating and horrid little man. His controlling of those girls and their contracts was pure evil. I know he's in jail for worse now, and it would seem he's found his place. I guess only since the Sony/George Michael trial have these things been allowed to now come to light on the contracts etc.

Simply beautiful. Loved it. About 1000% better than the Armstrong documentary.

Back from Glasgow showcase. Our screening wasn't full either. The quietest I have seen in a while.

This won't have look out of place if I saw this on telly first. It was good but personally nothing special. Probably as it isn't a subject close to my heart. Hence why I could take it or leave it. However I was amazed at how many of the voices I recognise and also some of the girls. 5/10

Amazing, soulful music and some interesting stories and anecdotes, but I'd have liked a bit more insight. The section dealing with solo careers and contract disputes seemed fairly brief, surely there's hundreds of tales apart from the main ladies featured, for example why didn't we hear how Sheryl Crow and Luther Vandross made the step up at that point as they were interviewed anyway?

And it was a bit strange watching it with just 13 others in Manchester tonight

Still it was a pleasure to watch and listen to, some of the music sent shivers down my spine and the new live performances were something else. 7/10

Saw this in Paisley tonight . . .approx audience of 40. I wasn't all that surprised given film is a documentary. As Yinster said, this would probably be better seen as a tv show! . . .at least that way you wouldn't need to p*y. I did enjoy seeing how important the music was to these backing singers . . .not for them the wish to be famous.
I cannot really imagine anyone being happy p*ying to see this even though it's reasonably interesting.

Loved every second of the music. It felt a little long even at only 90 mins but had some interesting stories.

Watched this 2 days ago. Prob the most boring film I've seen. 3/10

Bearing in mind im 18, it dragged on. Too much soul singing which got annoying. I enjoyed the bit about Michael Jackson and Rolling Stones but that was it.

They could have condensed it down to 60 mins. The only positives I can think of is how it exposed the music industry regarding how a lot of talent gets kept hidden.

Still can't see why it got an Oscar. Only movie for its category? xD
