Re: Divergent
Went to the Edinburgh Showing and not being a great sci film fan was not sure to expect. The answer was I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the story line and found the plot interesting. A long film but time passed quickly. Always think when I see films like this will this be the way things are in the future....nothing would surprise me but luckily not in my time . Would recommend x

Re: Divergent
This has some really interesting ideas and a cool-looking world, but I just couldn't get into this. The characters were too poorly defined to care about and my initial interest dissipated as the film (very long) went on.
5/10

Re: Divergent
Just another OK teen film. Nothing really exciting happens and it wasn't very believable for me especially the lead character's fighting/training scenes. It also felt very long which in my book is a bad sign. 5/10

Re: Divergent
I really enjoyed Divergent, even though I'm certainly not the demographic. Much more so than either of the Hunger Games films. Actually looking forward to the next film in March 2015.
Also heard today that they're splitting the 3rd book into two movies 'a la' Hunger Games

Re: Divergent
the whole setting felt like a school structure (jocks, goths, intellects, Christians etc) being forced onto a world setting. Exceedingly contrived, putting everyone into little classifications, the kind of thing you do when you are 13/14.
Smells an awful lot like those role playing games we used to play as kids where you play a character who gets a 'classification/profession' and is stuck with it for life. Highly illogical. I guess that's the point of being Divergentm, but the truth is everyone is Divergent really, or eventually... because you grow out of the classifications you imposed/had imposed on yourself back when you were young.
Seening it again tomorrow for my 2nd opinion.
And I reckon Divergent would be a great name for a box of chocolates.

Re: Divergent
Even though I am certainly not the demographic this is aimed at and having never read the books, this kept my interest from start to finish. Other than checking my watch once towards the end, I didn't really notice the length of the film. It kept me enthralled throughout. The hotness or otherwise, of the leads passed me by and I was able to concentrate on the film and its meaning.
I did think that a society that wanted to control people and ensure they had a meaning to their lives were extremely cruel to then cast out some who chose the wrong path. It seemed to defeat the object.
A solid 8/10 from me.

Re: Divergent
I really enjoyed this, Theo James was perfect (so glad he's going places, I've basically been in love with him since Bedlam) as was most of the cast in general. Really interested in how they're going to manage adapting the last book though...I didn't hate it but I'm not sure how well it will translate to film.
