Re: Holiday Thread
Thanks so much for the recommendations as the Manchester FMUKers are going camping for a weekend in the lakes in August or Glamping if certain members (of a more delicate disposition) are reading this.prettyxcool wrote:Aaah, that explains it!ejwrank wrote:Just to say that the Guardian and the Observer are jointly owned hence they promote each other, pxc. Thanks!

Re: Holiday Thread
Not a holiday as such but I'm at a conference in Bournemouth in November and have never been before so can anyone recommend any decent hotels near to the conference centre but not mega expensive as also have transport to p*y for?

Re: Holiday Thread
Am off to New York early June for 6 nights and am looking for a decent, clean & fairly priced one bedroom apartment for a couple and another adult in Manhattan preferably on West side. Anyone have any recommendations? I am scouring Airbnb and some other sites but a personal recommendation/contact would be good.
Preferred cinemas:
Central London and North London as far north as the Hampstead Everyman including Picturehouse Hackney/Notting Hill Gate - but not Wood Green and North Finchley as they are just a bit too far.

Not been as yet but I have booked into here https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j ... 7938,d.ZGU for August and have stayed in Staybridge suites before and really recommend them plus breakfast is included in the price.moondance wrote:Am off to New York early June for 6 nights and am looking for a decent, clean & fairly priced one bedroom apartment for a couple and another adult in Manhattan preferably on West side. Re: Holiday Thread
Just returned from a long weekend away for our 24th wedding anniversary. Only went to Keele about an Hours drive away. Had a lovely time the weather was great (always helps) our last day, today, we spent at Trentham Gardens. A lovely place to visit and we got 241 vouchers online, every little helps. Only problem was we couldn't get wifi where we were staying. Managed to survive though.

Re: Holiday Thread
If you're staying overnight of course is it is a trip and glad that you had a fun time.prettyxcool wrote:Congratulations steve and to your missus! What a milestone and even an hour's drive away is going away in my book!
Just spent last weekend in Geneva and I can honestly say hand on heart that the Swiss people are one of the most polite and courteous people ever from the moment I got on the plane a gentleman put my hand luggage in the overhead locker I have never been treated so much as a lady in my entire life. I know it's the age of equality etc but it was a pure delight to be treated so nicely.
Geneva itself is beautiful the air is so pure, the scenery breathtaking and it is just nice meandering around the place. The wild flowers are everyone looking like there have just been scattered everywhere but it is so perfect that a lot of work has gone into making it so pretty. An added bonus as a tourist is the free public transport in Geneva even from the airport where you pick up your free ticket in the baggage hall which allows 80 minutes transport and then at the hotel you are given a Geneva card which includes the small boats, trains, buses and trams. The Sunday market at Plainpalais is worth going to for the selection of flowers and fresh food - I wish that I had a few more days in an apartment as I would love to have prepared some wonderful food myself.
We took the bus to Annency in France which was £20 return and it is no wonder it is known as the most beautiful town in France absolutely everything is perfect imagine all the best bits of Bruges, Venice, the black forest, Lake Garda (never been but will one day) and the Swiss Alps rolled into one and then you have a rough idea what it is like. The water is so clean it is untrue. We took a boat ride across lake Annency and it was just wonderful I didn't want the trip to end as it is simply stunning.
I know that I am waffling a bit here but I normally spend a fair bit of time sightseeing in museums and palaces etc but I couldn't bring myself to go indoors as I couldn't get enough of the delightful scenery. I am so in awe of the place and now what to surround myself with pretty things and have so many ideas on the gardening, house and style front. One inspirational holiday and feel so refreshed from my 3 days away.
