Sorry for the distinct lack of involvement recently. I've been creeping around and reading posts but not contributing much.

I've had a bit of a setback recently with an old stomach complaint from years ago flaring up but hopefully, back on track soon enough!
Take good care John Milton, get fully fit and then come and rejoin us again o/

........ I am planning a little cycle the week after my OU end of year exam in June. I will attempt John 'O' Groats to Carter's Bar on the Scot/Eng border. I'm going to take it easy but It should take 1 week from North to South and back up to Edinburgh again. So, I have a fair bit of distance cycling to try and put in before I go in preparation.
Well done on getting back in the zone Stone Monkey o/ Best of luck for today's 10 mile Edinburgh run - just try and stay injury free :D

I'm mega impressed with what you consider to be "a little cycle" ;)

I am dreading week 5 because I have 3 bad days coming up.
Hey well done asamaic - that is indeed fantastic news and so very well deserved o/ :cheer:

Just relax a bit about your "3 bad days", shrug off the guilt and make sure that you enjoy them fully. Think of them as your reward for all the great progress you've made...... and then (on Tue 6th) get straight back on the wagon and refocus and go on to even more impressive achievements. :D

Given all the enthusiasm for, and the popularity of, Diane's new Gardening Tips forum, is anyone planning to grow their own salad stuff, fruit and/or vegetables? :D

I b*ght some living salad! o/

Apparently it doesn't live if you don't water it. I learned that the hard way.

I am intending to so would be really grateful for any tips as I especially love rocket and want to grow herbs so have them at the ready to keep (get me) healthy - I'll post on the gardening thread. I like the idea of the living salad o/

I can't hear the phrase "living salad" without visualising a plate of lettuce that hasn't been properly rinsed, and therefore comes complete with a variety of insects and bugs. :P

More seriously though, I'm thinking that it wouldn't take much imagination to actually make your own living salad, rather than b*y the ones that you get ready prepared from the shops. It would almost certainly work out cheaper in the long term, especially if friends clubbed together and b*ght a variety of different lettuce seeds and then shared/swapped them amongst themselves. I can see that the long-suffering Steve may be getting encouraged to be involved here, whether he really wants to or not

There's loads of different sorts of lettuce available all with different colours, flavours and textures.

Just need to fill a "kitchen windowsill" sized container with seed compost then scatter a handful of different types of lettuce/ salad seeds in and water. If you were especially keen you could maybe cover your container with a see through plastic bag (hotel elasticated shower caps would be ideal) until germination started.

In a couple of weeks you would be picking your own home grown "produce" and eating it with the smug satisfaction on one who has the knowledge that they are eating healthily, being self-sufficient and saving money as well.

What's not to like? o/

If I new how to post photos I'd show my progress - i have around £100 worth of goods to put in the allotment just awaiting me and my sore foot improving which seems to be now - wey hey....

I hope everybody else has had as good a day as I have had :D :D

Take care All......

Look forward to reading your posts.....

Preston1990, I kill plants! I thought killing salad leaves was a new low. I've killed peppers and chillis before. (Diane65, those do grow well in your part of the world, a good friend used to have a house full of them, but he's far more green-fingered than me.)

Could b*y one of those self-watering growbag thingys, I guess... I do have a shared garden I could use. But I do neglect green things terribly, I plain forget to check on them and they die. This is why I'm not allowed a pet or child, I'm too absent-minded.

Congratulations, stone_monkey. I have no idea what sort of time you were aiming for, but that sounds impressive to me. o/

I've been good today, done lots of walking. Have had a small dinner, and will have some stuffed veggies later. o/ Got my haircut which was amazing, even if it won't look nearly as good tomorrow. To the girls on this thread, I recommend promising yourself a haircut when you hit a weight loss milestone, I feel really motivated now, ready for the challenging week ahead. o/

Well done asamaic on your positive vibes and fabulous hairdo but I won't mention the dehydrated salad :noo:

Well done stone_monkey on the run and looking forward to hearing your advice on the gardening thread o/

Preston1990 I'm staying in a hotel on Wednesday so will be robbing the shower cap

I'm embarrassed to say with all this gardening malarkey I have forgotten to eat lunch or dinner which is just so not me so it will be a bowl of cereal I think as so late. :nono:

Just in the mood for a curry today, and I've renewed my vow to drastically reduce my consumption of those really bad for you pre-processed foods.....

So in a flash of inspiration, I had a dig around through last year's Weight Watchers postings and came up with (drum roll please) Moviemannn's rather splendid potato and chickpea curry. Here's a photo of some I made in my "firestarter" wok last September.

Image

I remember from when I last had it that it really is good .....and easy to make. I'm bulking it up with more veggies this time too, because (as MrG tells us) they are our "magic shield". I'm adding extra spring onions, green peppers, yellow peppers, courgettes, celery and aubergine.

Moviemannn's Curry

I see Moviemannn has changed his name to Solace now - thought I hadn't seen him around for a while. So, if you are out there reading this Solace - thanks once again - your curry recipes really are.... :shifty: ....second to naan! o/

Another one who has been lurking and reading about everyone's successes (or lack of them) and not feeling happy enough to contribute to the thread. I am heartily sick of my weight/shape. I eat sensibly Sunday to Thursday - lose 2 pounds, then go out for dinner, have friends round on Friday or Saturday night - and you've guessed it - I put the 2 pounds back on! In order to lose weight, I need to become a recluse, see no friends, don't entertain on a weekend, don't go out for meals, have no treats at all.
To add insult to injury, I go to the gym 5 times a week and burn off 500 calories on the treadmill. I have started to incorporate using the weights machines into my session too, and I am now doing a fitness video three times a week.

Suggestions please for totally deflated (if only) me.
