Horray I have got the seeds from a butternut squash to germinate. We had the sqash roasted a couple of months ago. I washed the seeds and saved them, then planted 3 seeds about 3 weeks ago. The true leaves have come out now on 2 - a slug got the otherone.

I put a stem of mint at the side, well the stem had to go somewhere.

Not sure about moving wild flowers, I don't think they like to be disturbed. Maybe, try on a couple when they have their true leaves. Try not to disturb them too much.

Its been quiet on this thread recently.

Well done on the butternut squash baty o/

Just picked my first fruit of the year, 4 raspberries and 1 strawberry. Lots more to come, hopefully this weather will continue so they ripen. I love growing fruit, I have several types raspberries, blackcurrants, strawberries and logan berries. They seem to keep going year after year, just providing new offshoots. Most of the raspberries b*ght from poundshops, I think my strawberries came from Aldi years ago and some of my blackcurrants came from a Ribena promotion years ago when i received bits of stick in the post, but they did eventually grow and again more added to from the poundshops.

I am not really one for salad or veg, though I did sow a few seeds, nothing much happening at the moment. I have just got some tomato plants from our work's gardener (he gives me some every year) so 6 tomato plants growing well and will need repotting soon. My tomato plants that I planted well over a month ago, about a week after the gardener are only just started to show signs of growth.

I need to spend some serious time in the garden to try and tidy it up and do some repotting, hoping the good weather continues :cross:

Also I planted too many wildflower seeds in a pot. How do I thin/separate them or should I just leave them?

Thank you.
I too have planted some wildflower seeds last weekend and already a few bits of green showing in the soil. I have planted some sweet peas in a tray now about 5cm tall so do I plant them straight into the final pots in the garden or into small ones first in the house or outside as unsure how strong they are?

This started to grow last year and it had such big leaves that I just wanted to see what it would do. Its now taller than me - 5ft 2ins 157cms!

I was just going to ask you what it is too.

Since posting my post yesterday about wildflowers, I went down today and looked... they're probably too abundant to start trying to thin, I guess they will just have to survive in that tub. I think they only last a year anyway - that's what it said on the packet. Next-door's gardener said it was better to leave them in a pot as there's such a close relationship between weeds and wildflowers.

About 2 months ago, I planted an apple tree in my back garden. It looks like a twig as tall as me but two fruits are growing on it. Looking good for future years.

Just catching up with this thread and my goodness that is huge Baty whatever it is. Your apple tree sounds promising steve9872. Need to plant out my sweet peas tomorrow (into what I have no idea so suggestions as to whether a plant pot with sticks in it or grow up a fence/netting would be appreciated as learning on the job) and just ordered this http://www.google.co.uk/aclk?sa=l&ai=CK ... planter-1m as need to get a move on with my herbs etc otherwise summer will be over before I start planting. I want to grow chives, basil, tarragon and my all time favourite rocket but any ideas as to what else I should grow and which ones need to be left in a pot (Baty's expert advice) so that they don't take over.

How is everybody else getting on with the gardening? On a gardening theme I have just received an orchid from a friend but as I have never had one before I haven't a clue how to look after it

FFS!
I planted a selection of seeds in seed trays in my conservatory and have been watering them religiously for weeks. Last night I took the biggest seedlings and repotted them into individual pots with new compost, and sat them outside so that they could get used to the outdoors and enjoy the good weather. Went to water them this morning and they have gone! Only pots of compost left.
Bloody rabbits have come and eaten every last scrap of them!
Anyone got a gun I can borrow? Little buggers.

Raging.
