Beyond sad. He starred in some of the most wonderful films.

Oh captain, my captain.

Like everyone else I was shocked to find out last night that this had happened & just can't believe he's gone.

I'm also surprised by the emotional impact this has had on me, it really feels like I've lost a good friend even though we'd never met.

My thoughts are with his family & friends.

RIP Robin  ...

RIP Robin Williams - looking at his films did he ever really have a bad role. Always remember him as far back as his Happy Days performances as Mork !

Totally agree re the emotional impact. I honestly think he was one of those actors / performers that you couldn't help but like and I guarantee that ever one who has any interest in film/tv/comedy will be remembering their favourite Robin Williams performance - mine is Mrs Doubtfire - what a shame we will now not see the long long awaited sequel

If I was asked to name my favourite actors and/or comedians I have to be honest & say that his name would not have immediately sprung to mind as I do think his films etc are quite mixed quality wise.

However no matter how good or bad the movie was, his personality always shone through and I think that is the reason I feel so devastated by the news of his death.

My personal favourites are 'Death To Smoochy', 'Good Will Hunting' & 'World's Greatest Dad' so I'll be revisiting those in the not too distant future (it would be a bit too painful to watch any of them today)...

Aw, Williams was not just my favourite comedian of all but for a long while in the eighties, early nineties my favourite actor too. Ever since his role as Mork from Ork, I was absolutely mesmerised by this hilarious crazy man on and off screen. I followed his every movie move in Hollywood which was surprisingly not a comedic route but a highly artistic and somewhat dark selection of roles for very intelligent and thought provoking dramas. He mesmerised me in both moulds, in both comedy and in serious roles which actually far far outnumbered his comedy roles. I remember being very excited to see Popeye but I didnt know Mork at that time. It was a superb film but I seemed to have been the only one to enjoy it, it was a big flop otherwise. It was Williams turn as Popeye that compelled me all the way. He didnt do much actually but he was as Popeye as Popeye could ever be but he played it with a rather tragic undertone. The film itself was a work of art, so undervalued because it was misleadingly not a comedy but a surreal work by a Robert Altman, a film I have revisited and enjoyed several times since. Then he went on to even more stranger choices, ignoring the hollywood offers of comedies (well he did just one mildly entertaining situation comedy film in between with Walter Mathaau) but his next film was The World according to Garp, very strange and darkly surreal drama/tragedy. Fab movie but not what I think audiences wanted from Williams at the time. Then came Moscow on the Hudson, another serious and thought provoking movie about a Russian defector in America. He was superb, had the innocence and charm and it was from here on, I thought of him no longer as a hollywood comic actor but a great character actor and surrealist. His catalogue of movies absolutely defies the manic persona he exhibited on TV interviews and stage. However, I always still wanted to glimpse the crazy Williams in Movies and when he did the voice of the Genie in Aladdin, I was overwhelmed and so glad that he was going to give us the funny Williams on the big screen too. Animated features turned out to be a perfect medium for him and was surely the King of voice over characters.

There is no one else like him. Jim Carrey has followed a similar route of film choices and in all honesty did better in mixing his roles between his stock trade manic comedy and surreal drama. Robin Williams however, predominantly chose drama but man did he make great choices. There are so many but I think my favourites are:

Popeye
The Fisher King
Moscow on the Hudson
What Dreams May Come
Bicentenial Man
Awakenings
Aladdin

...and oh I Just realise no more Ramon or Lovelace in Happy Feet if they ever make any more sequels :(

RIP RW

I watched the news til 1am this morning, in disbelief. I adored Robin Williams. Very talented and so funny to others, yet a tortured soul underneath :crying:

I woke to a beautiful sunny day and smiled, then remembered why my eyes were so sticky and heavy. I'd cried my self to sleep in the wee small hours. The sunny day is no longer as beautiful as I first thought.

Nanu Nanu Mork.

I woke this morning to the news and spent a good long while crying :(
He was a beautiful and kind soul, it's such a shame that despite his ease at giving happiness to others he struggled to find it in himself.
Robin made my childhood, as Im sure he did for most of the world, he will forever be missed.

Genie, you're free.

RIP

So sad. Nothing I can add to what's been said already.

RIP today the world is much worse off without your talent.
