Used a voucher to see "Selma" today. While I enjoyed the film , I was shocked to realise that this all happened in my lifetime. I know that there are still many areas in the world where equality is not obvious but to see it see graphically presented in one of the world's biggest country's is very disturbing. The film is a slow burner and builds up to the final changes necessary to give equality. It's a shame that the film makers were not able to use the words of the actual speeches given by Martin Luther King due to the rights speeches being owned by EMI. However, the script writers did do well in writing a final speech which is not dissimilar to the famous "I have a dream" speech. Acting was very good throughout.
I'm really glad I've seen Selma and would not have been unhappy to have pa*d!

I thought this was excellent. It's a real shame the king family demanded stupid money for the filmmakers to use the actual words of his speeches, but it didn't detract from the powerful performances which were excellent all round.
Having been to Atlanta and visited the house and the centre in September this was all very real and painted an excellent picture of the time.
Excellent

Not quite the King's estate licensed them in 2009 to DreamWorks Pictures and Warner Bros. for a project to be produced by Steven Spielberg. Selma's producers failed to get agreement from those companies.

Saw this with a voucher today. Only about 10 people in the audience. Had a whole row to myself.

I gasped and I cried. Came out shattered.
