Re: Free Days Out - post them here!
On 25 and 26 April 2015, HMS DEFENDER will open to the public for free tours so you can witness first hand the capabilities of such an important vessel. The ship visit will be strictly for ticket holders only and free boat transfers will be provided from Greenwich Pier. The visit will last approximately 90 minutes. Visitors should enter the security screening area via the Water Gate of the Old Royal Naval College. A map showing the location is at http://www.ornc.org//visit/sitemap
Full names should be used as shown on your passport or driving licence as this ID will be verified against the ticket booking prior to passing through security screening.
HMS DEFENDER is a Type 45 Air Defence Destroyer, designed to protect UK and coalition forces at sea, on the land and in the air. Equipped with the cutting-edge Sea Viper anti-air missile system and a suite of highly sophisticated sensors, she provides surveillance, co-ordination and control over an area of 200,000 square miles, and can engage supersonic, highly manoeuvrable targets at considerable range. Powered by an innovative high voltage Integrated Electrical Propulsion system, which generates enough power to supply the financial and political centres of London, DEFENDER is capable of operating anywhere in the world, in a wide variety of roles. Her two Pacific 24 Seaboats and the ability to operate a Lynx, Merlin or Wildcat helicopter extend her reach by hundreds of miles, and suit a range of tasks, particularly in the support of humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations where DEFENDER’s Sailors and Royal Marines would provide stability, deliver aid and save lives.
Since commissioning in 2013, HMS DEFENDER has been busy on operations around the world. DEFENDER is currently at high readiness to conduct contingent tasking and has a busy programme of multi-national exercises in the months ahead. The world-class training of her highly skilled 190 Sailors and Royal Marines ensures that DEFENDER Delivers: wherever, whenever and however required. This achievement has been widely recognised and in December 2014, DEFENDER received the Fleet Effectiveness Pennant for being the premier Warship in the Royal Navy.

The Thames is the longest river in England, stretching for 215 miles. Shaping London’s history as an important trade route; it's a worthy subject for this free drop in family workshop at the William Morris Gallery. Let the kids experiment with new and unusual ways to represent the Thames in art in London’s Mighty River workshop.
William Morris was a textile designer and craftsman, writer, poet and political activist. The gallery celebrates his life and work and supports artists with the Gallery's first major commission in 2015. Yinka Shonibare MBE, Turner Prize nominee, recreates photographs from the Morris family album - runs until 7th June.

Re: Free Days Out - post them here!
FREE Ascot Racecourse tix (similar events £13-£15)*
For Wed 29 Apr. Book tickets online for a free day out at the horses
10,000 tickets
Go via this Ascot Raceday* link to book up to four free grandstand admission tickets valid on Wed 29 Apr for the Discover Ascot Raceday (not Royal Ascot in June). Up to four children aged under 18 per adult also go free.
Grandstand tickets for similar events usually range from £13 to £15 and there were about 10,000 free grandstand tickets available on Tue 21 Apr, so giddy up to ensure you’re not left with a long face. If they don't go beforehand, the offer will end on Tue 28 Apr. This is a free taster race day so once the free tickets are gone, you won’t have any option to b*y grandstand tickets.
Note: Make sure you select 'Grandstand' tickets as opposed to 'Premier admission' tickets which you'll have to p*y for. The website says there's a £1 online booking fee but ignore this as the fee is actually waived for these freebies so you won't p*y a thing. If at any point you're asked to add card details, go back. You'll be emailed your tickets which you must print and bring with you on the day.
What is grandstand admission?
It's a specific area of the racecourse which gives you views of the track, parade ring and pre-parade ring. You don't get designated seating with your ticket, although there is seating available. Parking is also free.
What is the Discover Ascot Raceday?
It's an annual day at Ascot aimed at introducing people to horse racing. There'll be industry experts and tours taking place throughout the day to see behind-the-scenes at the racecourse.

HMS Ocean
http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/naval-reg ... ailordconf
Britain’s biggest warship', the helicopter carrier and assault ship HMS Ocean will open to the public on Sunday 10th May 2015.
In her role as a helicopter carrier and amphibious assault ship, Ocean is designed to deliver troops by helicopter or by landing craft – the ship has six helicopters and carries four Mk5 landing craft vehicle and personnel (LCVP).
Commissioned in September 1998 in Devonport – Ocean is at the heart of the Navy’s amphibious fleet. Until the arrival of the Queen Elizabeth class carriers, HMS Ocean is the largest warship in the Navy’s surface fleet.
The ship was diverted to Libya to conduct strike operations using Apache attack helicopters from 4 Regiment Army Air Corps in support of the NATO mission Op Unified Protector. The Apaches were supported by other specialist helicopters embarked in HMS Ocean. These included the Sea King Mk 7 Airborne Surveillance and Control (SKASaC) helicopters of 857 Naval Air Squadron conducting maritime surveillance operations and Lynx Mk 7s of 847 Naval Air Squadron.
HMS Ocean has recently completed a 7-month period in the dockyard at HM Naval Base Plymouth receiving more than 60 upgrades, mechanical improvements and an extensive maintenance package. She left Devonport at the beginning of July to undertake sea trials in preparation to rejoin the Fleet, fully refurbished with greatly improved capability and performance.
On 10 May 2015, HMS OCEAN will open to the public for free tours so you can witness first hand the capabilities of such an important vessel. The ship visit will be strictly for ticket holders only and free boat transfers will be provided from the Water Gate of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
