Mad Max: Fury Road
Mad Max: Fury Road
Apologies, couldn't find a topic so I created a new one.
Saw this tonight at The O2. Enjoyed thoroughly but, despite the 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes, I can definitely see a lot of people hating it.
There's barely even a thread of a plot, the dialogue is almost completely incoherent and some of the characterisations pretty damn vile.
However, the action is fast-paced, the imagery breathtaking & the stunts ludicrously well co-ordinated. It's an exhilarating, NOISY, insanity-fueled thrill-ride from start to finish.
As great as Tom Hardy is, the scene stealer for sure is Charlize Theron who absolutely dominates her role. This could have easily been called Mad Maxine.
If I do have one major qualm, it's that the director chose to deliberately speed up the action in certain parts.
For me personally, this ruined the authenticity and made it feel like I was watching a Benny Hill episode.
Other than that, highly recommended. If you enjoyed The Road Warrior, this will not disappoint.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
Outstanding. An insane, gloriously grotesque, deliriously exhausting action masterpiece. A big budget blockbuster that smuggles in some of the wildest and most surreal images ever seen in a studio picture. One long, beautifully sustained chase scene, it even manages to use the brief moments of respite from the automotive mayhem to deliver some surprisingly emotional grace notes and an impressively robust feminist subtext (oh yes).
If the latter means that (the very good) Tom Hardy's gruff and haunted Max occasionally feels more like a supporting player in his own movie, then that's a small price to p*y. Especially as that also means that Charlize Theron's indomitable Imperator Furiosa's own search for redemption places her front and centre as a, soon to be iconic, action hero. Nicholas Hoult also impresses as an acolyte of bad guy Immortan Joe (played by Hugh Keays-Byrne who was also the original Mad Max's chief baddie Toecutter) who initially eager to enter the gates of Valhalla, soon has his own journey to face.
Mad Max: Fury Road is a bold, exhilarating and admirably bonkers thrill ride. See it on the biggest screen you can.

Won tickets for the multimedia screening at Vue West End and the screening was jam packed, even when all the seats were taken, I hope everyone got a seat!
So intense, I nearly forgot to breathe! A rollercoaster ride, stunts were spectacular! It is definitely MAD!
Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron - brilliant, as well as Nicholas Hoult.

Let me first say, as good as Tom Hardy was, he played 2nd fiddle to Charlize Theron & Nicholas Hoult, who were both incredible.
The film... not so much. It was... Ok. It reminded me of one of the more audacious & ludicrous Top Gear challenges. I half expected Jeremy Clarkson to pop up yelling "MORE POWER!!!!" & James May to mumble "oh cock" whenever they had issues.
It wasn't terrible, it just seemed pointless. The chases were fun, but got boring & repetitive very quickly. I'm convinced that my Haribo Tangfastic induced sugar rush is what kept me awake for the entire film. My friend didn't have as much sugar as me, and did fall asleep.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
My nephew said that the film had no script and was largely improvised. Is this apparent?

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
Saw this in 2D at O2 last night.
They f'd up and the trailers didn't start till 730, with the film starting about 740pm... Feel bad for the people who got there for 6pm!
The speeding up of action towards the start was a bit of a Liberty but they calmed that down eventually.
Made it feel like a video game, and if you blink you'll miss the stunts!
Movie is epic, they got the cars, action and bad guy right but my goodness is this a
"Ms theron movie feat mad max"
The ending was a let down and I think the whole cinema afterwards was let down.
All the critics are on summing by the reviews.
I watched the 2nd half of mad max2 in curzon last night and gibsons max is much much more than toms "accent all over the place" max.
If anything, Mel could of reprised his role as this movie didn't require to much of the character.
Ending was Prob the worst part of the movie

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
I asked the guys at the O2 and they said the film was always scheduled to start at 7.30, so, Sky had sent out the wrong time on the tickets. I was pretty cross at the fact that no one told us what was going on. We were just left standing in a queue for 45 mins, then left in the cinema for another hour, and not told a thing.
Not sure what I thought of the film, I saw lovely Tom, but thought Mel, and thought Charlize had the better role. Tom's accent was all over the place. Maybe when you forget how to talk for years, it does that to you.
I loved all the cars ( apparently 125 were crashed each day and rebuilt overnight) and the fact that it was mainly real stunts and stunt men, with a little bit of CGI. Best of all I was so glad it wasn't in 3D. The colourization was fantastic, especially the night scenes, which were all blue
Sadly it was a bit repetative with no chance to catch your breathe, and see who is still going or who has been killed.
9/10
PS I've just ordered my Mad Max triple Blu, £9.99 bargain vx

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
So, was it shown in the superscreen?
Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
Yup!
Also, looking at Twitter, it seemed there was some Mad Max car showcase on display at The O2.
Gutted that I missed it.

Just back from seeing this & its super.
Almost dialogue free but so beautifully shot.
Always enjoyed tom hardy, but this should make him a star and charlize theron is Ripley for a new generation
9/10 not mediocre
