#1 Post by tonethestone » Tue Jun 09, 2015 8:50 am

Hi all,

couldn't see a thread for this film so thought I would start one up, my brother saw this at a press screening and said it was terrific, ranks it 2nd, behind the original, which is no shame. Said that Pratt is great. Sounds like a good popcorn summer blockbuster : )
Upcoming films want to see;
Top Gun Maverick
MI 7 & 8
The Many Saints of Newark
Ghostbusters : Afterlife

Best films seen recently;
Tenet
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
In The Heights
A Quiet Place 2

I like these kind of films and they are great for watching with the kids so I'll probably take my two. I didn't think much of the third sequel but quite enjoyed the first two.

My bro said it was quite scary, think its a 12, I have two daughters 9 & 6, I think the 9 yo wants to go but I don't think I will take her.

Film is embargoed for reviews until lunchtime tomorrow apparently, which is normally a bad sign but more & more films seem to do it nowadays.

If my daughters are anything to go by they need a good scaring! :twisted:

Am I a bad parent?

Good but not great.

Felt to me like a homage to Jim cameron

Saw this at Dominion tonight on a 2 for £9 deal. Just as well we got a big three seater sofa and footstools to lounge on it was tropicLly warm in there, but quite apt for the tropical film.
It was good fun and Chris Pratt is very good. Not keen on Bryce DH but not really been impressed by her in anything to be honest. A few continuity errors of shoes Snd no shoes, 2 wheel snd 3 wheel motorbikes to keep me going too! This was a good shameless blockbuster with many a special effect.
7/10 from me.

Enjoyed Jurassic World for the most part. It lacks the sense of wonder and awe of the original perhaps but there are several nice nods to the first film for fans. A handful of decent action set pieces keep things ticking along nicely and the CGI is often impressive. It all builds to a slightly daft but tense and entertaining climax.

Chris Pratt is a solid, likeable lead even though the script never makes full use of his charisma and knack for comedy, unsurprising perhaps when things start to go wrong but a little disappointing all the same. The same could be said for Jake Johnson who never quite fulfils the role of comedy relief you expect he was intended to be. Plus after giving us a complex fascinating villain with Wilson Fisk in Daredevil, Vincent D'Onofrio's hissable villain here is a little flat and uninspired in comparison.
Bryce Dallas Howard does a fine job with a slightly thankless role though and the child actors aren't too annoying for once.

I'd been a little ambivalent about the film up until recently but a handful of rave reviews yesterday had my hopes up. It doesn't quite live up to that promise but it's a solid blockbuster all the same.
And even though it has some dumb moments, there's nothing as dumb as the gymnastics bit in The Lost World, so that's something.

you know how if you Xerox a Xerox it comes out a poorer copy, and if you then Xerox that copy the product is somewhat worse? This is the Xerox of that final copy.

Weak leads (pratt is basically annoying, as is the ginger woman who has possibly the most annoying voice ever, how are these 2 even actors?), kids who seem to be more asleep than terrified, and new levels of dumbness which you never thought possible including an ultracontrived tag team finale. So freaking laughably dumb, I kid you not.

Still, the SFX areas good as ever if not better than previously, and you aren't going to get to see dinos anywhere else this big and real-looking. They add up to one decent setpeice, and 2 incredibly shit4brains ones. The helicopter soaring scenes around the island are actually the best visuals, mind you, gorgeously sweeping, I was hoping to see more of them.

Bizarrely, you may find yourself rooting for the dinosaurs as they gobble up a set of utterly stupid parkgoers. Ha! One of the highlights of the movie even...

Feels like Primeval without its oddball unpredictability, but on a massive budget, not terrible, but a long way off course from the original ....even though its simply another copy of the original! Whch brings me to ask - hell, why not just rescreen the original trilogy as imax movies rather than waste time making another copy? It would be much better cinema.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
