Now gangsta rap is not normally my thing, but OH wanted to see this so I relinquished two of my Sweet sunday tickets to go and see this. I was not looking forward to it, but it blew me away and totally surprised me.
The story of NWA with Ice Cube, Easy E and Dr Dre was one I was vaguely familiar with from my school/uni days but the music was just not something that interested me.
However it was the way the film was woven together showing the events of the time such as the Rodney King trial that led to the LA Riots was really well handled. Ice Cubes son plays his father and he looks scarily similar.
From not having looked forward to this, I've raved about it all day.
A real dark horse triumph.
Go see it!

Re: Straight Outta Compton
Thought the film was well made and the leads looked and sounded like the real group. My only complaint is that the movie just focussed on the animosity with the Police over their lyrics and didn't deal with the controversy over their more misogynistic songs. But I guess there's only so much information you can deal with in one movie.
