Was at the Islington VUE: to the two girls/women in the third row, to left of the auditorium, holding seats for their friends (making others hunt for seats elsewhere) and who arrived after the film started and made a lot of fuss taking their seats, disturbing others - your f**king selfish
Eddie The Eagle
Re: Eddie The Eagle
Okay, it wasn't the greatest of films - seemed dated (maybe deliberate to reflect the 80s) and lacked imagination in its story telling - but it was full of heart and had a few good laughs. Seems quite appropriate given the true life story on which it was based.

Re: Eddie The Eagle
I kept hoping for some form of context. We never find out how Eddie's life changed as a result of his experiences or if his actions prompted the Olympic committee to make any changes to their out-dated policies

They didn't, in fact they closed the loophole that had allowed him to participate so this was the only Olympics he ever managed.

I agree. I was surprised at how tearie I got when I saw this at a very full Greenwich Odeon on Sunday morning.Beate wrote:Very full screening at Islington!
Awww. *sniffle*
Taron Egerton was unrecognisable, Hugh Jackman was effortlessly cool, and it tickled me pink to see the lovely Iris Berben play cougar Petra while still looking 20 years younger than she actually is (mid-sixties!). It's of course a highly edited story but this stubborn Brit who didn't seem to know what quitting is surely captured hearts by being such a cheerful underdog. "It's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts". Sure. Sometimes.

It was definitely better than expected and well-directed by the talented Dexter Fletcher. 8/10

Re: Eddie The Eagle
really liked this film. you should be able to take part in sport for fun even if you are rubbish...yes of course when it comes to ski jumping there has to be some safeguards..but it really should be about taking part....the Olympic committee showed their true colours by changing the rules so Eddie was unable to compete in the 1992 games...he did go bankrupt at some point but seems to be earning a reasonable living on the gameshow/talk circuit...
Re: Eddie The Eagle
I remember Eddie at the Olympics and was cheering for him then. This film brought out those feelings again. It is a feel good, inspiring proud to be British film. I saw it in a full cinema, I think we all left smiling and the lady sitting next to me was wiping away a few tears. 8/10

Re: Eddie The Eagle
wow. a lesson in how to make a top notch feelgood sports movie. 4 stars. the last third of the film is such a buzz, there is no way it could have been improved.
watch it on the big screen not tv, for the sheer size of the ski slopes.

After a crumby day at the office I had to force myself out the door to see this film. The screening was rammed at Bluewater and I made sure the film was going to get off to a good start by having a 3 scoop core sundae.
I was gripped from the start and empathised with Eddie's struggle growing up. Taron was brilliant and his co stars, with the exception of Hugh, paled in comparison to his acting delights. Hugh felt at home in his character and was a pleasure to watch, perhaps he's an accomplished drinker....
At the end you're sitting on the edge of your seat desperate to cheer him on. This is family friendly, hurrah to the British, entertainment.
