Yep, that scene broke me too
I, Daniel Blake clearly showed how bureaucracies often lead to problems of inefficiency when all is needed is a little compassion and common-sense!

Take tissues. Take lots of tissues. I was practically a goner from the time the single Mum dug into a can of cold baked beans at the food bank because she was so hungry. The social commentary is not subtle so I don't expect the Daily Mail to give out tickets for this! This was incredibly real and raw - you could feel the frustration and desperation radiating from the screen. The friendship between Daniel, Katie and her kids was very touching. Everyone should see this. This is what cinema is about.

We all got a postcard with another Daniel Blake code on it for 1, 3 and 11 October, which I've just posted on FF, so you've got no excuse.

100% what I thought of this film. It forces you to open your eyes so wide you wonder when you leave if you'll ever forget that film.

9/10, brilliantly written and portrayed. The food bank has got their donation after seeing the baked bean scene.

50 years on from Cathy Come Home and perhaps we have not come as far as we might like to think.

Another heartbreaker from Loach - I have not heard so much sniffling and tissue rustling in a cinema in a very long-time - all the more powerful because it is based in fact, not fiction.

Cried more than once. As someone whose been (and is) in the system, it was very very real with an excellent attention to detail.

I saw this at Cineworld Wood Green. Everyone was sitting there for 20 minutes looking at a blank screen thinking that the film would come on presently when one of the viewers went to tell the cineworld staff upstairs that the film had not started. It turned out that the staff thought the film was rolling and that everyone was sitting there watching it. You do have to laugh sometimes hence the film started late.
I have to say I thought the film was brilliant. The frustration and the ensuing exhaustion and futility of all the form filling, telephone ringing, cvs etc that Daniel experienced was well portrayed. It was a bleak film and made one aware that many honest people through no fault of their own can land up in this situation. The food bank clip was sad but at least showed some people trying to help. Worth going to see. 9/10

Burocracy gone mad! I real believed in the characters and willed them on. A really forceful piece of filmmaking. Edinburgh was packed tonight and everyone sat in stunned silence.
Great writing, great acting. Tragic to think that we can't put it all down to fiction in this day and age.

It was very good. someone suggested it would be interesting from the benefit officers side. The credits acknowledged the huge input from anonymous civil servants on the other side of the glass screen, and the film also showed their frustrations.
