Enjoyable nonsense, it had one toe in reality and everything else a long way from that. It actually felt like a superhero origin story at times with the tragic flashbacks and the fight training(which also reminded me of the karate kid). It wouldn't have been a complete shock if the final shot had been Affleck putting on some kind of bat suit.

There were quite a few laughs throughout in between all the crunching fight scenes and gunplay. It had enough going on to paper over a lot of the plot holes, but these became apparent when talking about it on the way home, not helped by maybe one or two many coincidences/twists towards the end.

Our audience were certainly entertained, there were howls of laughter during one of the final scenes though I'm not totally sure if that's what the filmmakers were going for.

An entertaining 2 hours, whether it was all intentional or not. 8/10

The main actor Ben Afflek has Autism/Aspergers in this film and he becomes a wealthy accountant. I found the film to be very good and I love a loud, violent action film. I enjoyed the story however I found the story kept jumping from past events, memories and dreams to the present day. In my opinion, this was not done smoothly. Whilst he was a child, he was to attend a special school for free but his father didn't agree then his father military trained him. I'm not sure how he managed to get the clients except through a phone call and friend in prison who was then killed. At the end, it showed the school that helped him. I was confused. Maybe I didn't listen and concentrate properly. We had to really concentrate not to miss anything. The acting was great.

The Printworks cinema was nearly full at 6pm and it didn't start until 6.30pm. The people watching were quite elderly, not sure whether it was because the film was a Telegraph preview. They seemed to enjoy the film same as me.

My first thought was Chocolate when this started at Wimbledon. No, not a desperate need to run to Morrisons for a choc raid, but the East Asian movie about the autistic martial arts girl/superhero.

Affleck is clearly taking a sideswipe at his recently acquired Batman role with this effort. There are the ingredients for a good movie, and it begins fascinatingly enough, so its a shame it doesn't add up, and this becomes increasingly obvious as the shambolic ending draws near.

Starts out 4 stars, ends up 2 stars.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

I watched it at the Printworks.

Very full and an older crowd than The Light Between Oceans the day before , much, much older in one case - someone had brought a 1 and 3 year old to that film! They were actually quite well behaved apart from the odd cry here and there, which actually due to the story gave the film an extra surround sound feel at times.

I realise that the film has a 12A certificate so the children were legally allowed to see it but I wouldn't be happy if people brought such young children to a preview.

I have to say I found the timeline confusing. He had a meeting at that school but his father didn't want to send him there, the mother moved out and the father trained the two boys in martial art. Then fast forward to the funeral (I still don't understand that scene), he gets thrown into prison for something, meets the crooked accountant who teaches him how to detect emotions, he then gets out and gets killed so our hero goes on a murderous 9 people rampage, becomes a crooked accountant himself but no one has ever detected him and thrown him back into prison? Then along comes Anna Kendrick and the missing millions of Living Robotics, and it all kind of comes to a head because the agent who nearly became his tenth victim, doubles his efforts to find him. Is that about right or have I got it all upside down?

Btw, for the record, I would have preferred the painting of the dogs playing cards.

I've never been a massive fan of Ben Affleck (this was before him being Batman) and gradually I am starting to warm up to him and his acting (think it changed slightly after Gone Girl) but I thought he was great in this film. I watched the trailer and had high-ish expectations of the film and watched this last night at Shepherd's Bush and the film exceeded my expectations. I loved the little touches with the certain camera shots to try and tell the audience how Chris felt/emotions
Spoiler
Show
e.g. when he left the note for Dana in the hotel and he was slowly closing the door and still looking at her through the gap
. I was constantly laughing at scenes that probably shouldn't be laughing but his character of him being socially awks. Also was very touched in a few bits that I was a bit teary. I actually might even go and watch it again. In summary for me, the film was deep-ish funny action suspense thriller.
My Rating: 8.75/10

I saw this at the Vue Islington this evening and really enjoyed it. It does have lots and twists and turns but it hangs together fairly well. The lead character played by Ben Affleck acts very well as the autistic accountant/ superhero. It was very entertaining and I have to say that although long it did not feel so as I was totally absorbed in the plot.
I shall definitely be recommending. 9/10
