Despicable Me

#1 Post by PeteYork » Tue Jul 13, 2010 6:52 am

Seems to have been popular in America last weekend...

Lands here 15th October - looks like fun for children of all ages!

I once went hiking with M. C. Escher. It was uphill all the way there and uphill all the way back.

It's getting stellar reviews as far as I can see...and the plot set-up doesn't sound too dissimilar from The Incredibles, except this time we're focusing on the Super Villain.

I'm looking forward to hearing Will Arnett as his marvellous voice has been begging to be cast in an animated feature...+ the presence of Jemaine Clement and Danny McBride pleases me no end.

I'll definitely be taking my little lad to see this one on the big screen.

Saw this Sunday night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It may lack the depth of Pixar and ultimately be a little slight but makes up for it in sheer fun and a decent amount of laughs. As anyone who has seen the trailers will know it's pretty much the minions that steal the show (with Flight of the Conchords Jermaine Clement providing one of the voices), but Steve Carrell does an excellent job as Gru. The three girls aren't too sweet and manage to get a fair few laughs as well. The smallest girls unicorn obsession is particularly amusing plus there's a surprisingly dark joke involving one of the girls and an iron maiden that got a fair few gasps at the screening I was at. Some my find the sentiment in the final half a little cloying but I didn't mind it too much as there was usually a decent laugh around the corner to keep things going.
There is a decent amount of laughs to keep adults happy (the former name of the Evil Bank got the biggest laugh) but there is plenty of slapstick for the kids also. The attempts by Gru to get the better of Rival super-villain Vector have a definite Looney Tunes/Roadrunner and Wile E Coyote feel to them.
I fully expect this to get some free previews at some point and would gladly sit through it again.
