Not my cup of tea I'm afraid. I guess you have to be in the right mood for it. Too much was left unexplained, perhaps the book would enlighted me more. Why were some of them carers, and not just ordinary folk? If they were bred to be donors, why let some get deferred for x amount of years. Where did they come from , who were the people they were looking for? As others said, why didn't they just run away or commit suicide together?

Ididn't find it tearjerking or anything, just a momentary thought that it would be awful if that actually came to be. My mood wasn't helped by the girl in front who kept on waving her feet around, and the guy behind me kicking the back of my seat. Worst of all was the guy behind eating. I've not idea what it was but it was LOUD 8O Crunching away through the quiet bits with his mouth open by the sound of it, grrr.

And for some reason there was some sort of loud machinery noise throughout the whole film, no idea what it was 6/10

I was so glad I read an Standard interview with Kazuo Ishiguro before I popped along to Whiteleys. Having not read the book, I might have found it a little slow and baffling at first. But in the end it was quite beautiful and touching - a good mix of love story and "mild" science fiction.

Thought the best scenes were Keira Knightley's character and her crew experiencing the "real" world for the first time - popping down to spy on the travel agency and ordering brekkie at the greasy spoon.

Wow, I totally wasn't expecting that. I didn't know what the film was about before going, and was so shocked when Sally Hawkins delivered her you are born to die speech. Thought provoking, distressing yet beautiful.

Oh and the other question is why only four organs to donate, what about the rest? :confused:

The screening at Holloway was full, but it was a small screen. MariaLonza was there too. The only fmuker I recognised.

Only that she didn't use the word "die". None of them ever did, and it infuriated me. "Your lives will be complete" = "You will be dead." "She completed this morning = "She died this morning." "Upon completion..." No, it is death! Death, for God's sake! They are killing you in the name of science!!! :tears:

after the second organ is given, both leads were already in pretty bad shape... so I am guessing it's not a strict rule but they will usually "complete" before reaching the 5th?!

I've just got back from seeing it and it was pretty busy, still at least 10 empty seats though but we were in a big screen room.

i thought it was quite slow and knightley irritated me, i was hoping she wouldn't do, but she did. i thought it was a great story, but i too did wonder why they didn't just run off together!

i did actually almost let rip a massive sob at the end. andrew garfield made my heart hurt with his performance. i'd watch it again but not until it's on sale in the dvd section probably.

6.5/10 for me

Never let me fall asleep at the cinema... I was so not in the mood for this after seeing Paul earlier today, interesting story and Mulligan was very good, but it was all far too grim and heavy for today, so... 5/10.

cant wait for this at Slackers club on thursday, some interesting sci fi is definitely needed now.
