From a technical persperctive the footage looked great but I'm wasn't so convinced that it will end up being a great film. Guess we'll see on December 18th.

Hm, I don't quite know what all the fuss is about. First, we had to exchange our printouts for seated tickets, and I hate it when someone tells me where I have to sit, especially when they gave all the good seats to the press in advance so you could either sit in the front or if you wanted further back you had to sit on the side!

We got a short introduction from a BFI person as well who said that someone on Twitter had described the experience as "giving his brain an erection." Yeah well. My brain was given a headache. The 3D was totally blurry I thought, I took my glasses off a couple of times to check whether it was me. The story seemed weird, and I was just not taken in at all.

Also, there was this really annoying photographer woman who kept taking picture after picture, flashing across the room, for about 20 minutes before the film started, I felt quite murderous towards her!

On the upside, everyone who made the journey can add this to their free films total, because all the getting there and waiting around made it much longer than 15 mins!

I saw this at Vue West End and I was surprised when I got in at 18:10 to see it was already quite packed! So I had to sit in the second row. The preview started at 18:15? Or did I get in the wrong one??? Anyway, Beate says in her post that it was quite blurry, I thought it was because I was seated so close to the screen!! I felt i was getting cross-eyed

I quite liked it, but then I'm not sure if I'd p*y to see it :p

I thought the preview was worth watching, glad I made the effort. I saw it at Greenwich, first time I've been in their IMAX screen. It is pretty nice but not as spectacular as the BFI IMAX. It started a little late and we had a short introduction from someone (not sure if she said who she was). The first time they played it there was no sound so it had to be started again. This happened twice and there were a few matters but it was quickly resolved.

I wasn't too taken with the potential storyline or premise of the whole film. However I was wowed by the effects. It did feel like an overload on my senses and that was just a snippet - goodness knows if I could sit through 2 hours of that - but I will do my very best to try. I am quite looking forward to seeing it and preferably at the BFI when it comes out so it had the desired effect on me.

At the end there was a little applause and as we were leaving, cinema staff were writing down comments from people. Most of what I heard was positive so it looks like it was generally well received.

Avatar Day

In a highly publicised move, 20th Century Fox organised a worldwide 'Avatar Day' in which members of the public (including many members of this site) were shown more than 15 minutes of footage of the hyped-as-revolutionary 3D film ahead of its December release. Is it all it's cracked up to be?

chief100 reports:
I will get straight to the point this film is like nothing I have ever scene at the cinema and will change the way we see, and set the standard of the blockbuster film forever.
For those who have seen the short trailer on the internet, THIS, does not do the film any justice. (and it’s a real shame people are saying negative things on film websites so far). This film is meant to be shown at large scale in 3-D to give it's true potential, not a small PC monitor or even hook up on an in house projector. The 7 or so sequences really do go show the amount of detail that went into making the film, the insects buzzing around, gun shells falling to the ground not forgetting the glorious colours in the jungle. I would give a 9/10 for the whole experience, which is high for myself how is usually quite conservative about reviews. Can’t wait for December the 18th and then everyone else and myself get the chance to see this blockbuster special!
Are you also eagerly anticipating the film? Will it change cinema? Discuss on the forum!

Also, the BBC is picking up the buzz...

To be honest i was a little skeptical about the whole thing, but after seeing it at the BFI IMAX 6:30 showing i totally understand why it was needed. Most people will see the trailer online but wont have the chance to see it in 3D as its supposed to be seen. This was a chance for people to preview the 3D technology and i dont think people would queue just to see the trailer so they had to show extended clips. I think it was a really good idea and i enjoyed most of it but i do feel like i couldnt stomach 3 hours of 3d-ness. My eyes did hurt after a while as if there was too much on screen...maybe they should test if prolonged 3D-ness is healthly for our eyes...hmmmm..

Was also surprised that no-one else wooed of clapped loud at this screening. I felt like i was the only one...
