Re: Cures for Insomnia
Watching TV in bed works for me too, working shifts it's improssible to keep to the same sleep pattern, I sleep-in in the morning when I can as I find it's harder to get to sleep when I'm over tired, I kind of get past the really tired feeling early evening and am back to not being able to get to sleep.
Preferred Cinema's now Paignton or Exeter!

This is true, reading the kids a bed time story had me yawning more than them and when they read to me, I often find my eyes getting very heavy!jojojoanne wrote:reading sends me to sleep ... or being read to, much to the disappointment of my kids when they were younger!!!

Perhaps because we associate that with sleep?

my dad was a hard worker (retired now) and always fell asleep in front of the tele, snoring very loudly!! but if you were to change the channel, he'd 'jump' in his chair and swear blind he 'was watching that!!'

Re: Cures for Insomnia
I don't sleep period
I never go to bed before midnight and usually manage to fall asleep in about an hour. I'll wake an hour or so later then doze on and off till its time to get up. I've been like this for years and its not easy to cope with. YOu name it I've tried it, even hypnotherapy, but nothing really works. NO matter how tired I am the minute the light goes off, I'm wide awake.
I can't go to bed earlier cos I don't feel tired at the proper times. 9am, 3pm and 6pm are sleeply times
I am listening to sleep tracks on the mp3 which is quite useful, and I also like to listed to birds singing or garden noised on the mp3. I'm also taking herbal pills from Healthspan online, Sweet Dreams or anything with HTP5 I've been recommended.

Re: Cures for Insomnia
Hi Valda, so sorry to hear of your suffering, the only cure that has worked for me is to find the cause of stress and remove it or find help to recognise it and figure out how to deal with it in a different way.
I've had times in the not so distant past when I have not slept for months and my body & mind became unwell because of the exhaustion, I could not concentrate and I became very vulnerable to colds and viruses.
You need to speak with you doctor because there are also some medical conditions which can cause you to stop sleeping too.
Good luck Valda, but please don't just leave it to luck, you really need to get professional advice as you have been suffering for far too long Xx

Re: Cures for Insomnia
I have great sympathy with anyone who can't sleep as I have this problem for long periods of time.valda wrote:I don't sleep periodI never go to bed before midnight and usually manage to fall asleep in about an hour. I think this lack of sleep gives me a chaotic lifestyle.
I do feel tired sometimes but at all the wrong times! . . . hence, the reason I am sometimes on Fmuk at 2am . . . often talking to myself!

I have tried herbal tablets but found them no use. I've tried all the usual things; spraying lavendar on pillow, no caffeine, listening to music, etc.
At the moment, I seem to have found that having the tv on at low sound and the switch off timer set does help most nights/mornings(!). It doesn't stop me wakening up but that's another problem!
Unlike most others, I have had sleeping tablets for when I really am at my worst . . . I get 5 per month to use as and when I feel I really need a sleep!

I think all anyone can do, is keep trying different things until you find what works for you.

Re: Cures for Insomnia
My heart goes out to both of you. I cannot imagine not being able to sleep or consequently not waking up feeling refreshed and ready to face the day. I do wish that I had some good advice to offer you both but hopefully someone else will.MGellatly wrote:I have great sympathy with anyone who can't sleep as I have this problem for long periods of time.valda wrote:I don't sleep periodI never go to bed before midnight and usually manage to fall asleep in about an hour.
