I went to that W screening at LFF and yeah they had some free SFF screenings almost the next day! Very annoying, considering the screening of W didn't even have any Q&A, just lots of photo-ops for the press

I agree with Superhero, i.e. look at the release dates. I've seen the odd film in previous years but last year I didn't see anything because it depended on my happening to have a day off and be in London when there was a film I wanted to see and still with tickets available. Extras like Q & A sessions definitely enhanced the experience, but as noted, some films will already have been released and previewed and others won't be far off. Besides, if you cherry-pick your favourites, what do you have left to look forward to when they come out? It is expensive, too: most of the venues charge £12, so I'd only go to the Curzon and Ritzy which, even at £9, are at the limit of what I'm prepared to p*y.

Oh the "cheaper" Gala screenings they are charging £15!! and the BFI has raised their membership charge this year to £40!! (and they've stopped giving out free tickets vouchers and the 2for1 vouchers).
By the way, the BFI Imax comp., isn't that open to members only or is it open to everyone?

Hmm..you see my point. Now we just got a code of Taking Woodstock, which is in the London Film Festival. People p*y good money to see this films at the festival but pretty soon afterwards quite a few of those films get a seefilmfirst/tellten screening.
By the way, the next skyperks film is Fantastic Mr Fox! which is the opening film for the festival.
I must say you are quick off the mark, phunkygal with the corrected info for the code! and I am glad you're back!
What would we do without you!
I must say those central london tickets went quick! hopefully it's not 1 person grabbing loads of tickets. I managed to get 2 for myself....yippeee. Hopefully I won't have to work late that day. Saying that, it's not the best Ang Lee film ever, it's had one of the worst reviews for an Ang Lee film.

I put in a priority postal application and got tickets for:
The Road
44 Inch Chest
The Double Hour
Bellamy
A Mother
but failed to get tickets for A Prophet. Quite a few films were sold out before booking was even opened to the public. There were about 40 films I wanted to see but even just the 5 films I got tickets for cost me £107 (2 tickets per performance).

Nice work tweedledum. I quite fancied 44 Inch Chest (yes it's a pun!). It seems like an interesting film. I managed to get everything apart from Nowhere Boy, I am not too disappointed as I don't know much about the director or the film, but then again last year's closing night film was "Slumdog Millionaire" so hopefully I am not missing out.
I managed to get tickets for Fantastic Mr Fox, I don't know if I should be happy or not! Given skyperks will be doing free previews soon. Hopefully Meryl turns up at least, maybe that will be worth the inflated ticket prices...

Re: London Film Festival 2009
Oh allow me to spoil the surprise, the BFI is doing a "surprise screening" on the 3rd October at the IMAX and it's ...........Under the Sea 3D *sigh*. They sent me an email today just to spoil the surprise.
Well I guess they do need to warn me, given I was asking the membership lady about the huge hike in membership prices and now no free members ticket voucher. She said "We've replaced it with regular free members screenings". I said hopefully not old films then... She said it should be the calibre of "The Wrestler" or "No Country for Old Men" like in the LFF.
I would hardly call Under the Sea 3D oscar-calibre!
