Actually our bedroom window has not one, but two blackout blinds plus curtains, but still the light gets in and disturbs my sleep. What I would really like is those shutters you get on the continent as I've found them 100% effective, but OH doesn't like them and we wouldn't be allowed to put them up anyway. But I'm quite happy to leap up as soon as I wake up - no languishing in bed for me!

Oh, don't remind me, I miss them so much! Always surprises me that I can't find them anywhere in this country, they are also very effective against burglars! I had electric ones in my flat in Germany, I pressed a button and the blinds came down. Bliss!

Yes, those shutters are ideal in so many respects. I think you can get them here, but there might be regulations which prevent their installation in some cases. In ours, we had to sign something when we b*ght our house to say we would not do anything to alter the external appearance. Of course some people ignore this and put up those ugly dishes but officially they're banned.

Another good thing, though: the woods and fields are alive with game birds, rustling and croaking.

An excuse to go clothes shopping to get some new winter clothes, now that summer is over (not that I can afford it really!)!!
I also agree that the better TV programmes are back and you can snuggle up on the sofa out of the cold.

I like getting my cosy winter jumpers out and the winter duvet, I hate sleeping with the thin duvet in the summer!!

Thanks for the reminder - need not only to swap over to the winter duvet but put the electric underblanket on the bed, too. Reckon I'll be needing it soon. I do like practical presents and chose this as a gift from OH to myself.

- Oh yes Bonfires,
- snuggling up in your jarmies with a vino and the scented candles flickering
- dark nights
- The TV getting slightly better.
- The thought of putting the xmas decs up as early as possible (love my flat with decs up)
- Homemade soup when its cold outside.
- Rain and snow belting down on the windows whilst your snug in bed.

-However... dark mornings are a no no... :O(

Love:

Having hot chocolate with marshmallows without someone saying "isn't it too hot for that"!

Being able to put a stew and casserole in the slow cooker so dinner is all ready when everyone gets home.

Still collecting conkers with my teenage kids and then beating them at the competition.

Watching my cat chase the leaves around the garden.

Hate:

Standing watching my son play football in the rain/cold and then having to clean my wellies.

Standing watching my daughter play hockey in the rain/cold and then having to clean my wellies.

Watching Chelsea play at Stamford Bridge in the rain/cold and I would not dare wear my wellies for this.

(I guess you can see I hate being out in the rain and the cold)
