Re: Epic
I watched Epic this morning with the children, was surprised the cinema was not overly busy and easily got decent seats towards the rear of the screen.
We all enjoyed it but by how much varied, my daughter absolutely loved it, she loved the flower people and the slug/snail had her laughing out loud and came out of the screen saying 'can we see it again, can you get me the DVD when it comes out?'. Whereas my son just said 'it was ok' with a shrug of the shoulders, not sure if that's because at 10 years old he's very much into the all action hero type films at the moment.
I myself did enjoy Epic, but don't think it will be one that will stand out in my memory over time, the use of 3D was above average and the animation was vivid and beautifully coloured and Mub was a very funny sidekick.

Re: Epic
We saw this at Glasgow Braehead, cinema was pretty full by 10:20am but as usual you have the numpty late comers who disrupt rows of families and stand blocking the screen. We had a right pair this morning just as the film started and the woman was not taking no for an answer, checking every empty seat.
As for the film, a blend of Arthur and the Invisibles, Spiderwick and the Barbie Fairytopia movies. The 3D was well used for a change and the storyline was slow to begin but got better once the heroine got in to the action. Bless her but Beyonce can't act in person or on voice over, she seemed stitled compared to the others. We had a 5 yr old with us who got a bit restless towards the end, not sure why as it was well enough paced. Not the best story or the best characters but a lovely film to watch and a nice ending. Grub was better than Mub

Re: Epic
For what it was, this was fine. Unlike many animated films, this is aimed squarely at the kids...who seemed to love it.
Was in one of the newer screens at derby, in the 'premier seats'....boy are those hard ! Must take cushion next time !

Re: Epic
I didn't think this was very epic at all and in fact inferior to everything from Rio to the Croods.
The 3D was indeed very impressive and the colours vibrant. There also were some fun characters like the snails but that was about it. It felt too long and wasn't all that interesting or funny, and the ending was rather anti-climactic.
And to top it off it wasn't even shown in the superscreen, so we were surrounded by wriggly kids who shook the whole row everytime they moved. Blergh.
Saw hdaniel82 and EthanRunt, but were was everyone else?
6.5/10

Re: Epic
Deeply dull and inconsequential. Children deserve better films than this, and it all looked a bit dated compared to stuff like Brave or even How to Train Your Dragon.

Re: Epic
I agree in the most part, however, neither myself or the children really rated Brave either & would probably choose Epic again over that. Really hoping Despicable Me 2 lives up to the first one, thats onevwe are really looking forward to.LondonCityNights wrote:Deeply dull and inconsequential. Re: Epic
I saw this today at the MetroCentre, and felt it was rather lacklustre, and missing a special ingredient, which we have come to expect from colourful 3D films of this ilk. I think that the children have been short-changed with this one. I was gauging the audience reaction throughout the film - and - quite frankly, there wasn't much of a reaction at all. Usually the children are laughing out loud, or animated on leaving the cinema. Not today.
The film was extremely colourful, and the storyline was different. Thank goodness for Grub and Mub!
6/10 from me.
