Definitely a girly film.
Beautiful and sumptuously vivid to look at.
Had this not been billed as a true story I'd have been accusing it of being way too contrived though. You could see the plot developing in the way that it did hours in advance.
I'm afraid I bored midway, but perhaps this was due to me getting a knackered seat again. This will be why no-one else had sat there. I had to wriggle throughout as I constantly slipped forwards as the base sloped down. Last time this happenedin this cinema I complained and eventually wangled a voucher. This time I didn't have the energy to even report it. I can tell you something though - if this was a Cineworld allocated seat they'd be hearing all about it, for sure!

Sunday evening BBC2 fare, and not that exciting/engaging, so 5/10.

thanks for the link. I'm more interested in learning the real story as this was a bit too Mills & Boone. Not that there is anything wrong with Romantic films, I love them and Romance novels. As a TV movie it was ok, looked sumptious but way way unrealistic. Walking around without a Chaperone for clandestine meetings with no one realising? 5/10

Thanks to Jeanelle for keeping me company o/
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

Thoroughly enjoyed it also. Screen almost full and more men than I was expecting attended.

Silence throughout the film, you could have heard a pin drop, and I heard a few suspicious sniffles at the end :p

Wahey my first free film of 2014 o/

Saw this yesterday in a completely full Wandsworth. After a recent string a mediocre (and at times downright appalling) films – at last something to really get people talking. I did not look at my watch once – always a sign of a completely absorbing film. The plot was intriguing and was based on a true story which was, as one would expect, slightly embellished. However the essence of the original story was there – especially where Dido’s guardian, Lord Mansfield, the Lord Chief Justice, had to make a ruling which affected the slave trade.

All in all, an excellent film – screenplay excellent, the cast superb - Gugu Mbatha-Raw was perfectly cast in Dido’s role – the screen lit up whenever she was on. There were also excellent performances from Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson, Penelope Wilton and Miranda Richardson. Stunning cinematography, beautiful location shots and gorgeous costumes. I can’t praise it highly enough. From me – 10/10.
